Let me just start by saying I am a huge Steve Kinser fan. But with that being said it may be time to hang it up. It pains me to watch him decline like this and now with Gerkin supposedly leaving the road it is only going to get worse. He has not had a single quick time all year. You would think that at point this long year that he could stumble upon 1. I will hate to see him go as I grew up watching him and thinking he was one of the most bad ass people on the planet. Well he still is but I would hate for him to be one of those guys that sticks around to long. So let the debate begin. Should Steve retire or even go part time? Maybe a farewell tour in 2013? I know the WoO would hate to see him go cuz he still puts butts in the seats. What do you all think?

Aint going to happen. I hope. If the right wrench man comes on board, he can still drive the hell out of a sprint car.

Maybe we can chalk up 2012 to just having an off year. I still think The King has what it takes to be competative. I look at Steve's season just like I do Rahmer's year. They both just didnt wake up and forget how to win all of a sudden. Sedalia28 is right, maybe if he gets a new head wrench, with some fresh ideas things will change for the better in 2013.

He was leading the points coming out of the Silver Cup. He's had a terrible 2nd half, but for a while there, he was a consistent top 5 car. He can still do it.

Yeah there's no way Steve just forgot how to turn the wheel after all of these years. The car just doesn't seem fast at all. I've never seen him look as bad as he did over the last two weekends. Completely irrelevant on Saturday night at the Grove. He started on the pole Friday night in his heat race and finished 3rd. That's not a sign of a guy that can't drive. That's a sign that he's sitting in a car that is inferior to the competition right now.
No one else is mentioning it, but Kraig has dropped off significantly since his great first half and Gerkin builds his motors too. Scott has been great and with Steve for a long time but they are due for a change. Watching Scott on standing on the back of the trailer this weekend at the Grove, he just looks disinterested.
I think it's different with Rahmer. I thought that he'd come out guns blazing Saturday night after Paul put the 51 on the front stretch on Friday, but he couldn't get out of the C. I hate to say it, but Fred might be done.

More standard Hoseheads people displaying their complete unawareness. If you don't realize how streaky sprint car racing is, you don't have a clue. Really amazing threads on here.

Steve will have a farewell tour like Richard Petty had in 92, in a year or two.

Just another dumb fan here that shouldn't be since I don't actually race but it is amazing how Donny and Steve were dead even and the switch flipped at the same time....Donny to the front, Steve to the back.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

i have never been a steve kinser fan and i too believe the end is near also for him. poor performances, (knoxville, dirt cup, gold cup) you name it this year. i have never seen him in so many "B" mains, ever.
so, with that said all of the really old guys will miss him but to the younger crowd, he's not a rockstar! the young guns are here. time to kick back and spend time on his boat.......and again gang, jmo here.
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...

Something like 40 of the 54 cars on Saturday were in the 16 second bracket. Steve went out in the beginning and was a 17.3
No bobbles, no nothing, just was about a second off fast time (who went out last).
He won at the Grove in May and vcame from 20th to 9th on Friday. He can still get it done.

I was thinking the same thing. How can you be fighting for the points lead for a good part of the year and then be a has been?
Besides as someone else once pointed out, when Steve does decide to do his farewell tour, he will break all of the souvenour sales records.

Is this the same Steve Kinser who was still leading points up into June/July this year? He's had a
ton of motor issues this year. It doesn't help that he's 58 years old. He can still win races.

Just my opinion...but the day Steve Kinser and Sammy call it quits, will spell doom for WOO.

The King can still wheel a car better than most I chalk it up to bad luck in the second half of the season they've had multiple engine failures since the Kings Royal out at Eldora IMO I think an engine builder change is in order for 2013

I just turned 61 and if it was me I'd have quit five years ago the way I feel when I drag it out of bed in the morning. I couldn't even imagine taking a tumble in a Sprint Car at this age. I get a chuckle out of these younger folks who grew up watching Steve and obviously don't want him to quit. He's an awesome guy and he's still good but if he has found the fountain of youth I wish he'd share it with the rest of us. If he hasn't found the fountain of youth then it's only a matter of time until his skills start to diminish. Hand eye coordination, depth perception and stamina all go away with age so eventually it's going to happen.
Not trying to be a downer or anti Steve but I'm just stating the obvious.

Fred Isn't done. When it was put out that Fred would be in the 77 for the remainder of the year. Don Ott stated he was doing some Engine R&D work and needed someone with exper. to give him good feed back. Since his son couldn't be in the car due to a Broken neck Fred was the best choice. It hasn't been Freds fault the 77 blew up or has had motor issues. Hell it has blown up MANY times this year. Hence the Engine R&D...... We will see a Better Fred Rahmer in 2013. you heard it here first.
