Notes of a National Open virgin;

  • What recession? Unbelievable crowd! There were race fans everywhere. Wow!
  • I'm thankful for God fearing, patriotic, sprint car loving "red necks"!
  • Great racing. How bout those 51 cars!?! Fred who?
  • The Kinsers were lapped traffic
  • There is a genuine lack of respect for the WG security team
  • The Hall of Fame raffel car is a partial fake!?! The motor is painted cast iron, no injector, no gauges, no fuel lines, no brake lines, no titanium, etc. I thought the raffel car was supposed to be the real deal, per Bruce Ellis!?! Has it always been a fake, or are they getting lazy? The money goes to a good cause, but I decided not to donate when I realized that it was a fake!
  • Brrr, it was freaking cold! I wasn't prepared for 50 degree temps...
  • "You boys some kinda posse"? Congrats to the Grove, that was an awesome National Open...

The raffel car you see is NOT the one they give away.

When it is given away a brand new car is built with all the lattest goodies!

Hannity, I am glad you enjoyed your National Open experience. I have gone to 29 of the last 30 Opens and have not had a bad time yet. If you are a true sprint car fan the Williams Grove National Open should be on your " bucket list" along with the Knoxville Nationals, Kings Royal and the Gold Cup. The atmosphere alone is worth it. Despite the reputation on the board about the Pa Posse fans, I have found most of the fans to be just like me, someone who just enjoys sprint car racing and having a good time. I am always a little sad when the night is over and I am walking through the pits before I head home, knowing it will be another 365 days before there is another National Open and I will be a year older, a little fatter, a little more bald, but will still have a smile on my face. As far as the weather, I thought it was pretty pleasant this year. I have gone some years when you needed winter jackets, gloves and a ski hat and were still FREEZING!!!!

Sprint82,

Thank you for clarifying! I should have asked the guys selling the tickets... but was kinda discouraged when I started looking at the car.

The National Open was indeed awesome this year. Excellent racing and track conditions both nights. A home run for the Grove. That was a HUGE crowd last night.

First time back to the National Open after a 10 year hiatus. Took my nephew to his first one and we had a great time. The track was absolutley perfect both nights. Went to the museum and could not believe all the expansion since I was last there. Was it just me or was the Wild Child freakin awesome to watch both nights. We were saying it was too bad he did not get a provisional instead of Steve. The way Haud was driving with all of those restarts at the start of the race he would have mowed down half of the field. Cannot wait to return to the Grove again!

Not bad for a 50+ year old hall of famer. I have been watching him for 30+ years and he has not changed a bit. Still drives it like he is 18 years old except he does not wreck as much as he did then. It would be nice to see Kasey give him a shot at the 9 car next year to give the old guy one more good ride and see what he could do with it.
