Watched that kid again last night...He reminds me of Kinser in his prime the way he is able to put the car in spots nobody else can...Not fair to him or Kinser to compare them, with Kinser at the end of his career and Larson at the beginning of his but his control of the throttle on the bullrings is just like Kinser....Young Steve Kinser won in everything wing or non wing with more regularity than Larson but I would argue the competition is tougher today. Don't get me wrong there is only ONE Steve Kinser but this kid is doing things (winning) on the track that Kinser did. The track announcer stated that Larson had run 100 races in 2012 and won 20 of them in many different types of race cars. Phenom is a huge word to describe anyone but I think it fits this kid...

I was lucky enough to see him a couple weeks ago at the gold cup and he sure is fun to watch . Sure makes it worth the purchase of a ticket.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

I don't like stuff like "the next Michael Jordan, Steve Kinser" etc. Kyle's accomplishments speak for themselves. Plus it provokes the haters

He's amazing

I actually said last year after I seen him at the 4 Crown in the sprint cars that he was Haudenschild/kinseresque in the moves he was making. I've seen him three times now & he won 4 out 5 of those races. Sunday at Waynesfield, all 3 divisions at Eldora last year. Didn't make the show at Limaland, Before ol 21MOFOracer gets in on this Kahne & Stewart didn't either.

That's funny you would say that! Because when I got home that night, that was the two people he reminded me of also! The way he goes threw lapped traffic, is how Kinser did when he was younger! And the fact he can do it with or with out a wing, reminds me of Haud. If you look at some of the Great non-wing drivers, such as Rich Vogler, they never won anything big with a wing! And there isn't a very big list of Wing drivers that have won any big non-wing race's either! Now I'm not saying there isn't guys that can drive both! but if the event has a t-shirt that has all the past winners on it, how many guys are on both types of shirts? Steve Kinser - Jac Haudenschild - Sammy Swindell - Doug Wolfgang - Ron Shuman - Kyle Lawsons. If I'm leaving someone out please add them too the list!

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Jesse Hockett, Tim Kaeding, and Brady Bacon are as close as they come today.

Come to think of it, since a lot of you guys have seen way more sprint races than me, & you want to compare him to former stars, go for it! He's great

I'm 62 and 5'9" but I bet I could beat Kyle 1 on 1 (let the old fart have his fantasies, OK? I would NEVER dare drive in a sprint race...but I can still whup middle school kids in hoops.....except the good ones...)

Bud Kaeding, Peter Murphy, Andy Forsberg, Kyle Hirst are some others that have had good success in both winged and non out here in California.

Cheers!

I think its just all too fitting that Kyle won the Jac Hewitt Classic. There is a ton of respect for each other between those two.

Cheers!

Just looked up the results of the Mopar Million...138 cars...Haud 1st, S. Smith 2nd in his first non wing start at Eldora...Chaney and D. Jacobs both in the top 10...Brent Kaeding finished 5th in the B main... Saw another site that had pics of every car and driver and there were other wing drivers and asphalt drivers such as Dave Steele and Jeff Bloom....Having been to the last 13 Knoxville Nationals and every Kings Royal except for 1 that race was the single best race I have ever witnessed. If you type in Mopar Million Eldora lot of good reading comes up....

Mopar Million was one of a kind. I'm sure glad I went. Jac and Stevie were fantastic.

OK I would say any of the Keadings could win at either! Matter of Fact I should have put Brent on my list! But I don't think Tim has ever ran with out a wing. Now Bud has all kinds of big non wing Wins! And no disrespect to any of your other choice's, but I was talking about who has actually won a major race with or with out a wing! Not who could!

Well he does have two World of outlaw wins! Not sure about USAC? But there's a lot of Good Drivers that have won a race here and there, But when it come's to Big Events, that's a different story!

Tim has run the Oval Nats.without the wing before and I think the non wing race at Calistoga.Another guy that definiately could win with or without the wing in big shows was Lealand McSpadden.

Oh Yeah! I for got about Lealand! He's defiantly someone that could! Maybe we should name the top ten or so Sprint Car Races, then see who's on both list! !. Knoxville Nationals, 2 King Royal, 3. Gold Cup, 4.Four Crown, 5.Western World, 6. Pacific Coast Nationals, 7.Utimate Challenge, 8.The Big one, 9. Mopar Million, 10.Little 500, 11.Willaims Grove Open, 12.Eastbay Winter National's (back in the day-LOL!) Obviously some of the Great race's no longer exist, So I'll need some help with this list! Feel free to add on what I left off!
