I am at a delima. Over the past three years I have purchased a weed eater from Sears and they break within one year. They are in the $125-145 range and I don't have that much weed eating.;..probably used less than eight hours a year. Do any of you have experience with other brands that you might recommend...in this same price range?

thanks much,

leon

if you want to talk about Larson or Sammy...please don't respond!

Find the right part for your Sears product.http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?psid=121308994&sid=PSx20071217x00001d&OVMTC=b&OVKEY=craftsman%20weedwacker%20parts&timestamp=%7Bmsimpts%7D&creative=1481672&adcid=5340420

Sears usually has a good guarantee on their stuff.

Kenny...the problem is Sears wants a minimum of $65.00 to repair and it usually runs more than that so I'm thinking I would be better off just getting a new one. This last one almost looks new but quit starting and I've tried everything.

thanx for your info,

leon

I used to have the same problem until I broke down, spent a little more money, and bought a Stihl. It is 6 years old this summer and still starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull, depending on how fast I can get it off choke when it starts.

The last I knew, Stihl was the only brand to use an actual carb on their small engines rather than relying on a diaphram in the carb to push fuel. My Stihl runs just as good upside down as it does right side up!

I do a LOT of trimming with my Stihl and wouldn't trade it for two of any other brand. There's a reason the big lawn care services and a lot of tree trimmers use Stihl.

(And no, I don't work for Stihl or know anyone who does. I've just been very impressed with their product, which I can't say for the other brands I owned prior to buying a Stihl.)

Agree Stihl makes the best products!!! I've been using the same one for the past 10 years.

I am a silver level certified stihl tech from working at a high volume saw shop years ago and we would only even bother working on a very few makes of small engine power tools because all the other stuff from sears and the like are just too hard to get parts etc.

stihl stuff is a few bucks more initially but well worth it for the exact reasons you already described yourself... any stihl product can be rebuilt and has parts readily available. use it well , take care of it, store it properly!!! and you will not have a need to buy another for many many years..

always mix fresh gas in a specific use only container, end of season drain the tank and run engine and carb dry and then lube up so nothing rusts and you are good to go.

drop $300 on a new shindaiwa, or find one used in good condition. I'm not kidding, I trim grass about 15 hours per week. they're all we use. haven't used a stihl trimmer yet, just their chainsaws. the chainsaws work gret in my experience. I'll have to check them out, trying to find a used trimmer for my dad. http://www.popularmechanics.com/home/reviews/outdoor-tools/2696256#slide-2
