We're planning to make the trip down to NC this fall for the World Finals for the first time. I am looking for advice on things like where to stay, things to do during the day before the races, etc. Yes I do race a sprint car and no this was not started to bash Sammy and yes I am jealous of the opportunities and talent that Larson has. There, now that that's out of the way, thanks for the advice on the World Finals.

There is the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Museum in Charlotte. Not sure if your a NASCAR fan, but from what I have seen about it, I think any race fan would be entertained with what they have in there.

There are a lot of places to stay right down the road from the track depending on your budget and quality of hotel you want. As far as places to do it depends what day you arrive. Most NASCAR shops are only open til Friday not Saturdays, except Michael waltrip racing open Saturday's still I believe. Hendrick motorsports is basically across the street and down the hill from the dirt track. There is usually a whelen north vs south modified race a little ways from charlotte that usually has good racing. If you feel the need for speed check out the pit indoor go karting in mooresville. Those karts run about 45mph and trust me you will have a blast. Just some ideas for you. And pack warm. It's warm during the day but by racing time it's jacket weather.

Thanks to every one for the advice. Found out at our race Friday night that our banquet is Nov 2, while I planned to be in NC. Now I have to decide. I have ROY wrapped up and am still fighting for a top 10, but I'm thinking going to 3 days of races will be better than a couple hours talking racing. They can give me whatever I win later, right.

You can also take a ride in a dirt sprint car or dirt latemodel at the Dirt Track Racing School just down the road in Gastonia, NC.
Go to driveondirt.com for all the information.
The World Finals has really grown in a short time. It is a full night of racing with the best sprint car, latemodel, and big block modified drivers in the world all racing and competing for championships.
It does get cold at night so bring warm clothes!
Hope to see ya there.

WOW.....I wish I knew this was there when I went down a few years ago. I have always wondered what it would be like to take a ride in either of these beasts.

If you are not into the NASCAR thing but you enjoy museums there is an awesome Gold Mine museum out there as well. You can find info on it at the Charlotte Visitors center. Interesting thing for us was that when we took the tour there everyone in the tour group was wearing Sprint Car shirts. So we weren't the only ones looking for something that wasn't NASCAR related to do. There is a quite a large selection at the Visitors center of things that the area has to offer. There is also a fellow up the road from the track that has a resale shop for race team buy outs. That was an interesting place as well. If you are looking for some decent race car parts that is.

Thanks Brad and 79.
A ride in a late model would be cool. Then I would have proof that sprint cars are cooler than late models, instead of just thinking so. Where do I find that resale shop? That sounds worth checking out as well.

If I remember correctly, (we were there in '08 & '09, so it has been 3 years), you follow the road that passes alongside the Nascar tracks main entrance (which you can see from the dirt track) roughly 3 to 5 miles. I can't remember street names and the like, but it will be there on the left hand side. You can see it from the street. It had a lot of parts in the large front window. That is actually how we found it, by cruising around the race tracks neighborhood. It is not hard to find as it is within maybe 5 miles or so. They had a lot of NASCAR stuff, engine parts, car parts, a few Sprint Car parts, etc. etc. etc........ Sorry that my information is not more accurate, but if it happened more than 3 days ago it is amazing that even remember it! Good Luck. I can try to look it up later if need be.

Our seats are Section 306 Row 36. Will we need eye protection up there? I was in Iowa once fishing a Bassmaster tournament and found there was a WOO makeup at Knoxville so we hit that on the way home. We ran all over to find goggles and stuff only to not need it when we got there. Don't want to take stuff unneccessarily, nor be without stuff we wish we had. Thanks.
