The Sixth Annual Race 4 Life / Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial

A Race 4 Life / Port City Raceway Special Release by Cody Morris

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

The anxiety across the Mini Sprint Nation has transformed into nationwide anticipation as the top talents in mini sprint racing prepare for a truly transcendent event. In just its’ sixth edition, the Race 4 Life has risen to one of the marquee events in mini sprint racing. Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Port City Raceway has also skyrocketed to similar fame in becoming one of the top venues in mini sprint racing and perhaps beyond.

This coming Thursday, the Race 4 Life and Port City Raceway will unite to honor and celebrate the integrity and courage of a hero, the commitment and sportsmanship of a champion, and the spirit and faith of a legend. This coming holiday weekend, family, friends, fans, and fellow competitors will join the Race 4 Life at Port City Raceway confines for the Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial.

A daring high banked 1/8th mile bullring located in Tulsa, Oklahoma and gaining nationwide acclaim for its’ extremely high quality of wheel to wheel action; Port City Raceway offers an atmosphere and standard of family entertainment rivaled by few other venues within the sport. Backed by a passionate fan base and quite possibly the largest and most competitive group of weekly racers in the Mini Sprint Nation, Port City prepares to host the sixth running of the Race 4 Life, a prestigious charity event that has become an annual must see event in open wheel racing.

Together, the Race 4 Life and Port City Raceway present the Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial - a three day event anticipated to be one of the largest in the history of outdoor dirt track racing in the Sooner State. The three day event will also feature a silent auction with over $15,000 in donated items. All proceeds will go to the Donnie Ray Crawford Racing Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Created by the Crawford family, the DRC Scholarship Fund reaches out to young drivers who look to their future beyond racing. As Jodie and Donnie Crawford shared "This scholarship fund is for those racing people out there who have tried to make it big and they realize it's time to move on, and need to get in school” Jodie & Donnie Crawford.

As the festivities of the Sixth Annual Race 4 Life and Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial near, event organizers anticipate a turnout that could shatter the prior Race 4 Life entry record set at the 2011 event in Sweet Sprints, Missouri that featured approximately 207 entries.

With nearly 180 teams entered as pre-registration closed ten days ago, it is widely anticipated that well over 250 teams will compete in the Sixth Annual Race 4 Life/ Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial at Port City Raceway.

**Event Details**

Following a full day of parking on Wednesday, six divisions will compete for an overall purse in excess of $30,000 at the Sixth Annual Race 4 Life / Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial at Port City Raceway.

The Sportsman division will qualify in entirety on Thursday, with the Junior Sprint division qualifying in full on Friday.

Thursday and Friday’s qualifying nights will each feature two sets of heat races for each class with the second round of heats inverting the starting the order of the first set of heat races - giving each competitor equal opportunity for passing/finishing points.

The top 16 in accumulated points will then compete in the evenings’ A feature. The top 8 finishers of Thursday’s qualifying features will be locked into the inside rows of Saturday’s A feature events. The top 8 finishers in Friday’s A feature will be locked into the outside rows of Saturday’s main events.

The remaining competitors will vie for the four remaining main event positions in consolation features held on Saturday afternoon. As the consolation features conclude and the main event lineups are officially set, Port City officials will rework the high banked 1/8th mile oval to provide for the extremely high quality of racing Port City has gained national recognition for.

During Saturday’s intermission and final track preparation, an auction will be held in which over $15,000 worth of items will be bid on with the full proceeds going to the DRC Scholarship Fund among other pre-main event festivities in honor of Donnie Ray Crawford.
