Looks like it's being shown at 8:00 Central time Monday morning according to my Dishnet guide.

I watched it Saturday. Not the best produced show IMO (better than 2011 though).

I still haven't figured out what has happened to TV coverage of the Outlaws. The camera angles from the 80's (TNN shows) were better than what they are using now. And since it's tape delayed, they should be able to edit it WAYYYY better than what was possible back then (In car cameras are better for one)..

Seems to me that the broadcast of the Nationals is an afterthought for the World of Outlaws (the one hours shows and Late Model Shows seem to have a lot more effort put into them).

I especially liked how the Outlaws inserted Johnny Gibson giving the 4 wide Salute wording like it was what the crowd heard (Johnny wasn't even on the mic all week, IMO it shouldn't have been part of the broadcast). Nothing against Johnny, but why not pipe in the people that were ACTUALLY ON THE MIC (Blake Anderson and Dave Rieff)?

Maybe it's the director or editor, but something is deeply lacking compared to the tape delay (and LIVE) days of the late 80's and early 90's. Seems like the quality of the broadcast is going down instead of going up.

The Diamond P videos of the 80's and early 90's are AWESOMELY produced compared to the current product. It's been over 20 years and the shows are worse now?? Maybe the World Racing Group should spend their $$$ on producing the TV broadcasts instead of having so many executive salaries, or paying out so much tow $$ that nothing is left over.

I'm glad the Nationals are broadcast on TV, but the quality of the broadcast doesn't reflect the IMPORTANCE and QUALITY of the Racing.

Too funny! But I agree 100% I couldn't make it this year again but I think there is nothing like being there. But for those who can't, being able to watch it live is at least something. Seems to me that they might consider a pay per view deal or something. Honestly, we had it going during our get together and there were few that were actually watching it.

That is hillarious about the Gibson comment. That got by me when I watched it. I agree too that the quality was poor. In particular, I noticed the camera shots were very shaky. Must have been rookie camera people.

Johnny is 100 times better than Bokhoven, who is the most consistently misinformed announcer in all of racing. If you took a shot for every time he's corrected on the mic, you'd be drunk before the heats start.

Im not sure how they made the nationals so boring but they did it. I thought the coverage was so so at best. Brad Doty is their only saving grace. If it werent for Brad it would have been as boring as Nascar.

I didn't comment on their commentating, just thought it was dumb to insert a "phantom announcer" into the TV broadcast. Johnny was NEVER on the mic the entire WEEK, let alone for the 20 seconds it does for him to do his thing.

As far as the misinformed part, Johnny knows a lot about the standard outlaw drivers, but he doesn't do any research when it comes to the locals or anyone else in the show, so I'd hardly call him "informed" either....

What did Tony say on that broadcast that was missinformed?

That is why SPEED hires him because is the worst out there

Did he take your sucker or what

I too was fooled by the Johnny Gibson switch. I also liked how they were taking commercial breaks during the last 25 laps of the feature, especially the break with like 9 laps to go. If this was live, they would be handing Schatz the trophy before the 100th time the commercial of the guy using his horses to pull his truck out of the mud was over.

Well - *technically* - Johnny was calling the races live on the DirtVision internet-cast... all week.

Thanks for the heads up - I'll try to remember to mute the sound when it gets to that point

Outside of Bruce Ellis, there is no more informed announcer than Johnny Gibson.

And Bokhoven does a good job on Speed, but in the booth at the actual race, there is nobody I have ever heard that is more misinformed than him.

That said, I sure was impressed by Henry Cap this year at Knoxville. haha

maybe you've got Tony confused with Whitey in the pits....

They need to take his mic away permanently, for someone that't went to the races as long as he has he should be better at the minimum of understanding formats.

I'll never forget this at the first Outlaw show in Knoxville this year. Whitey: "Joey, after setting quick time tonight the worst you can start is 3rd in the feature..."

Joey's reply: "Well. unless something changed I've gotta make it through my heat first and then see where we line up in the dash"

Classic....

I've heard Gibson call many drivers by the wrong name over the years (every announcer has at one time or another).

I've heard Ellis announce during the Nationals as well, he's slaughtered names and gotten plenty of drivers/cars wrong as well (although he always did a great job with the few local PA boys that showed up).

Back to the orginal topic, the Broadcast on Speed...

Glad to see they have a good group of on-air talent, but they are missing the story-teller that they had for years (Steve Evans back in the day and Dave Argabright lately). Makes for a much better telecast when you tell stories...

Those old broadcasts were alot of fun back then, and something I looked forward to when I was younger. Steve Evans sitting in the stands with the fans, Sammy pulling out of the track early because he was pissed during the Slick 50 deal...The excitement was there back then...not now, unless of course, if you attend the actual race.

The best Sprint Car announcer is Kirk Elliott.

Gary Gerould was great in the pits and color.

As a broadcaster just let me say this......This isn't NASCAR or NFL or anything like that where any of us broadcasters/announcers have 5-6 spotters/assistants helping us with info or anything else--I was at a NASCAR race last year and rented a scanner headset to listen to drivers----instead I listened to the announcers in the booth and every one of them had a producer assigned to them that was feeding them info and questions to ask during interviews the entire broadcast--Here its generally up to us-----I know myself and my partner do everything ourselves on the radio broadcast with no outside assistance.....That being said everyone seems to think its so easy to do what we do.....24 cars---140mph---1/2 mile track-----occasionally we do mis speak as we have 100 things going through our head as were speaking plus trying to watch the action......its NOT easy....no matter how long you've done it ....It doesnt mean the person is an idiot or doesnt know anything about racing.....and for those of you that like to point out EVERY little mistake any of us make----I'd say come to the booth....grab the mic and have at it!!! You'll see it's not so easy and even the MOST knowledgable people will make mistakes.....After all we are HUMAN..... We are ALL doing this because we LOVE sprint car racing....want to see it continue to grow and want to bring as much attention to the sport as we can-----simple as that!!!

I could not believe all the commercials and they put them at the most inconvienient places too. Is it me or does the often immitated often duplicated need to be dropped. It doesn't make no sense no more without the NST.

Couple things I noticed. First of all, the most exciting laps of the race were the last 15 or so laps as Brown ran down Schatz, only to jump the cushion, then run him down again. Of course that is the part where for about 10 of those laps SPEED cuts away to show us the excitement of Dollansky racing by himself for 3rd. Secondly was that you had DeWease, Heskin, and Dobmeier all coming through the field from the back and no mention of it and almost no footage of it. At one point as Heskin and Dobmeier catch and pass Saldana the announcers only seem to want to comment about Joey and make it sound as if Saldana is the one moving up. Didn't catch the Gibson call but that's hilarious. Outlaws want so badly for the Nationals to be their race.
