Topic: Port Royal or Lincoln? Brits needing advice

We find ourselves on vacation from the UK in PA on 31 Aug/1 Sept and I see we have a choice of races on the Saturday night. We'll be at Williams Grove on Friday 31 Aug and staying locally so can do either Port Royal or Lincoln the night after. Can you guys who know the area recommend which is likely to the best track to visit and/or have the best field of cars?

Welcome to Pa, the hotbed of Sprint car racing. Lincoln has a 3 division open wheel program that night with 410's,358's and super sportsman ( sportmans are self starting with a top wing and no nose wing ). Lincoln is a smaller track than the Grove and Port Royal. Either Saturday night track will have good racing. Lincoln is 20 minutes from the Grove and the Port is about an hour and 10 minutes north of he Grove.

If Port Royal has their usual line-up of Hodnett, Lance, Pittman etc.. I think it's the better track and better field. Some people swear by Lincoln, but I don't really like the place.

If they have those 3 divisions on the schedule for that Saturday night,go to Lincoln. Best bang for your buck. Stop in at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing on your way down from the Grove to Lincoln just off route 15.

All about the preference. If you like half miles and speed, then Port Royal. If you like the short track racing, then Lincoln.
If you are looking for big names, the Posse big hitters will be at Port (Hodnett, Dewease, Pittman). Dietrich and Monteith will be at Lincoln. Rahmer will decide where he runs on Friday night.
Both tracks are running their normal format that weekend. Port Royal runs a draw/redraw format where you draw for your starting position in your heat and the top finishers in the heat redraw for their starting position in the feature. Lincoln runs a draw/handicap format where you draw for your starting position in your heat and the top finishers in the heat are handicapped in the feature meaning the higher point guys such as Dietrich, Monteith and Haas will most likely be starting 10th, 11th, and 12th. It sets up good feature racing.

I would personally go to Port Royal because it is the fair opener on the 1 of September. Plus dont know how many cars from Lincoln would be going there to get track time there for the big weekend ahead of them.

Thanks everyone, very helpful. Maybe see if we can get an idea who is racing where at the Grove the night before and then make a decision.

It's opening night of the Juniata County Fair on Sat at Port Royal. On top of great racing, you'll have food that's 2nd to none...easy choice, at least for me anyway!

Port has 410's, Three State Flyers latemodel series, Prostocks and Enduro's for the Butch Renninger Memorial As well as The Juniata County Fair going on with all the extra foodstands open.

Lincoln has from the first time I was there been my favorite track in Central PA. The fact you have two classes of sprints makes it an easy decision I think. The 358's have a different winner almost every week if my fading memory is correct and there's always a lot of action on the much smaller track. It might not have the variety of food but it does have the best fries I have ever tasted anywhere, not just the track. My favorite announcer in the country with a great stat man backing him up with info and many friendly folks who will share the local knowledge with you. This traveller always had a great time there, if you can find it, that's another story....

As mentioned earlier in thread, it depends on what you want to see. Port Royal is all about pure speed, while Lincoln is a bullring with closer action. In terms of big names, Port Royal has the balance of power right now, but the tradeoff is that they have done away with handicapping. Honestly, either choice is fine and you can see a good show at either of them.
MSPN is correct about there being a highly competitive 358 Sprint Car division at Lincoln, but Port Royal has Super Late Models as the second class.

If you do go to Lincoln make sure you go early enough to try your hand at go-karting at former World Go-Kart Champ, Knoxville Nationals Champ and all around Champ, Bobby Allen's place as it is just up the street from Lincoln. Check it out....

Pretty even as far as field of cars go and both are nice facilities. Lincoln will have more passing, side by side and much better racing almost suredly while Port is more of a strung out follow the leader track but they sure do haul the mail there if speed is your thing. I'm leaning towards Port because they have a 3 state flyer LM race that night also which will draw an excellent field of LM's

Selinsgrove has an $8000 to win 360/358 race that night. That's where Pittman, Heimbach, Mark Smith probably Aaron Ott and anyone that has access to a 360 motor will be. Good bet that Shane Stewart will be there in the McClaren 21. That'll be a great show too. So many options in central PA on a Saturday night.

Forgot about that race. Us here in central pa are lucky to have so many options to choose, from and quite frankly where ever you may choose to go, its gonna be really good racing with quality field of cars. Welcome to Central PA racing!

With Port being 150 miles instead of the 50 miles to Linky, you would be 100% correct, Port, hands down, is a can't miss opportunity...
