Schatz in 2011 might have been able to win starting a lap down.
In 2012, he was unbelievably strong on Friday, but wasn't as good on Saturday, but still won. I don't think he would have won this year starting last, but in 2011 I think he would have.

The last 10 laps or so Schatz was making mistakes, come to find out he said a stop broke and it wasn't handling right. That is the only reason Brown got close to him. That stop doesn't break and he wins by a straightaway. I will agree that seeing him win every year sucks, just like it sucked when Kinser won all the time. The A main on Saturday night is always the most predictable race of the year.

THIS. If something is too good to be true in life, it usually is... It seems like Donny has more horsepower and/or more traction than anyone else in the last 7 years at the Nationals..............
He alone is also ruining the excitement of the nationals for me. I am not going to bother getting excited next year, and I'm not even going to listen or watch the Nationals and I always have for atleast 10 years now. I'm sick of the "donny schatz knoxville nationals".
|
That is exactly my point with this. The collective groan in the crowd when Schatz moved into 2nd was deafening. Now where he gets his speed from I'm not going to speculate. However adding the excitement of a potential last to first win to the event would change the whole A main atmosphere. Making a ridiculous potential payout to the defending champ each year would add big time publicity and attention to the event. I know terry buys an insurance policy for the 50k attempt at the FRC so such funding does exist. It's a silly idea probably but it would help to relieve some of the "anyone but schatz" buzz that has gone on for the last several years.
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Prob should stay at his house cause after Nationals he didn't want to sign anything for fans. Oh wait maybe his exit was so quick as his line of fans was so short

I got my shirt signed and a picture taken with him....seemed alright to me

He came from the back at Volusia a few years ago and that was with 25 laps left in the feature and won the thing. The field of cars at Volusia is unreal and for him to do that was a sight to see...he is strong at Knoxville and I look forward to seeing more winners in the future, I hope it's sooner rather than later!

and what about it...? many MANY drivers have lost the Nationals (any race) because something broke! Nature of the beast. Had he lost and Brian won...A broken stop is not a valid argument. Any driver can say that about some race in their lifetime....If Only

I don't know if he could come from 24th, but if anyone could do it it would be him. I knew after the World Challenge on Friday nite, barring no trouble, Donny was once again the man to beat! He has an absolute lock on the Nationals.

Could he win it from the tail? Very possible. Shane Stewart went from last to 3rd last year so a big move thru the field can happen.
From Jackhole "Had he lost and Brian won...A broken stop is not a valid argument. Any driver can say that about some race in their lifetime....If Only" The only time in the last 7 years that Schatz lost was due to a motor going south, and Shaffer had to work at the pass. Valid argument because if he doesn't break he is going to win.
Schatz and crew have got that place dialed in. Plus the fact that Schatz doesn't make many mistakes or bad decisions. It is very rare you see him make a move and scrub alot of speed or loose momentum. I hate to admit it but we might watch him break Kinser's nationals record.

With his record in the last 10 years at Knoxville, I would say he has a lock on it! Shaffer was just lucky Donny blew an engine at the 50th. Lots of capable winners at the Nationals, Donny just seems to get the job done while others are a lap short. I don't necassarily enjoy watching him win it every year either, but to be the man you have to beat the man!

And for that dumb comment I have a question. How was he lucky they know how many laps they are going to race before it starts don't they? Sorry 6 out of 7 isn't lucky. With how many second place runs?
Thats called ON YOUR GAME not lucky

I think he could under two conditions:
1. A 75 lap race
2. Two red flags for tires and gas

YOU'RE COLD?"

After seeing Front Row Challenge, its obviously a sucker bet to start from the back. Why take a wild chance at a fortune when you have a damn good chance for 150 grand from the front. Kind of like quitting your job & investing your life savings on Lotto. Could he do it? Maybe, but not worth the risk

Offer him $250,000 if he can pull it off. $5000 a car passed if he doesn't. If kville starts promotion of the deal of the century they have a much better chance of selling out the nationals again. And for that money and recognition for himself and his sponsors I can't see him not going for it!
