I vote next year that Knoxville start offering a challenge to the defending champ. Guarantee them $75,000 to start the A and if they are willing $500,000 to win from 24th spot. It may cheapen the event slightly but damn would it add crazy drama
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Not if he has to start behind Davey Heskin. I bet he gets a nationals win. There are so many tough cars in the A that schatz wouldn't have a chance.

Schatz would get blocked by everybody if he tries that. A couple of guys get together and run side-by-side right in front of him. Barring a conspiracy, he would probably have the best chance of any driver to get it done.

I like the idea but I don't. I think just leave it the way it is, if you were to do it this way you'd have to start 25 cars so it wouldn't mess up the format for the other cars qualifying. How about have him start at the tail of the E-main and give him $1,000 for every car he passes plus whatever purse money he wins if there are roughly 100 cars and he passes them all on Saturday night that would be $100,000 bonus plus the win of $150,000. I doubt anybody would take that challenge ever but it would be exciting.

As much as I'd like to say he couldn't I don't know that I'd put it past him.

Amen to that, gotta say, BB lifted a few eyebrows 50 more yards and the 21 would be a very happy team, I gotta give BB props, I dunno if he was lagging back or gunning for the pass, he didnt show Schatz his cards and that was good, if BB would have pulled along side him, Schatz would have just laid it down, a clean fast for position pass was the best stradegy. Thanks Brian Brown for puttn the heat on!

I think Schatz could win from his house with his car still in the trailer, while he was still sleeping as long as he set his alarm to go off around lap 25! (provided he was sleeping in his driving suit of course)

Prob should stay at his house cause after Nationals he didn't want to sign anything for fans. Oh wait maybe his exit was so quick as his line of fans was so short

The way he drives by the best drivers in the world in the nationals on Saturday night there is no doubt he would win from the back of D, the C, the B, or the A and drive er to the front. When you are consistently a half a second to a second per lap faster than any car in the field, you have no competition. Once again he and Rick have em a secret, whatever that may be, and it works every year on that Saturday night. Sure wish they would inspect the top 3 cars from top to bottom after that race. Then we might find out if they are legal or not. It just alarms me that he is NEVER that fast at Knoxville during the regular season or on qualifying night yet come feature time on Saturday night they have been in a league of their own for 7 years.

I think for the amount of prize money and how big of a race it is, Knoxville should really implement a mandatory motor claim for the top 2 or 3 finishers, tear the motors down and if there legal give em back, if there not deal with it. I really doubt it will happen though cause I doubt Knoxville wants the press of stripping someone of the win either, not good for PR.

If the question here is whether he could than I'd say the answer is pretty clear. Absolutely. I'd say 2011 was a pretty good indicator of what he can do at Knoxville when he doesn't start up front. He started 13th and took the lead from Swindell on lap 15. Logic says if he can pass 12 cars in 15 laps he can pass 23 in 50. It's not like the guys running 1st through 12th at the knoxville nationals are easier to pass than those running 13-23.

THIS. If something is too good to be true in life, it usually is... It seems like Donny has more horsepower and/or more traction than anyone else in the last 7 years at the Nationals..............

He alone is also ruining the excitement of the nationals for me. I am not going to bother getting excited next year, and I'm not even going to listen or watch the Nationals and I always have for atleast 10 years now. I'm sick of the "donny schatz knoxville nationals".
