to win the knoxville nationals, just set fast time, 200 points, win the heat race, 100 points, and win the feature, 200 points. bam you start on the front row of the nationals, if it was that easy!!!
|
If you take a look back in history you will see that it has been done several times.
It has been a while though.
If I remember right there were a couple years that the front row of the Saturday night A had 2 cars with 500 (Perfect) qualifying points.
The only thing that needs to be changed in the format is to return the heat races to being FULLY inverted instead of this 8 car invert crap.

When they start getting more than 50 cars on each qualifying night, we'all see the 10 invert come back. The 8 car invert is only getting some of the squirrels out of harms way.

The 8 car invert will help make sure that we never see 60+ cars/night again.
There is no reason for the slower guys to come.
If you go back 20-25 yrs ago, you know back when they got lots of cars and inverted the whole heat race, the difference in lap times between 1 and 50 was a lot bigger than it is now.
There are squirrels that time a lot better than 40th every year. Probably should just line them straight up to avoid having the chance of a fast car running over a slower car.

This thread was about changing the format of the qual nights. Qualifying nights are always exciting and filled with drama because of the perfect format. Friday for 30 years has been a snooze fest. It was the only night that the format brought no excitement because the results meant nothing. Friday's changes were great because for the first time ever, Friday delivered the same drama, excitement, and carried the same importance and urgency that time trials, heats, and features carried on Wed/Thurs. This thread is about the ignorant minority who cry about how Qual nights are unfair because time trials mean too much or heat inverts are not fair. My first point was completely accurate. Change Wed/Thurs and you ruin the Nationals. You know that so why ask me a dumb question?

Whats up With That
Can't Believe Tim Shaffer Came from 15th to Finish 2nd in Thursday Nights Qualifier & Doesn't even make THE KNOXVILLE NATIONALS!!!!

ok, maybe its just me, I attended the last two nights of the 360's Stewarts car (and himself) looked absolutly dominant in saturdays A, nothing against Stewart, he's a hell of a wheel, but, on pencil his previous finishes put him smack dab in perfect uniform for the A start, (maybe it didnt matter) he was just that good, I just cant get over how all the other drivers looked like they were out to lunch, is it just me? If so, I have a long ways to go before deciding on where and when ill finish. just makes a guy think. ya know..

ironically, the first two qual nights wernt as cut throat as I had experianced in the past, I love the Fri night format holding weight to ones start in the final night, I would Never attend a nationals without attending the two qual nights, to me that is the best racing and the story lines begin there. did Wed and Thurs nights lack the pop they have had because of Friday (last chance) option?, if someone times poorly, do they just stand back and hope to have friday pull them thro? it might just be coinsidence the first two nights lack the drama as previous years . JMO, I still like the new format, I just kinda noticed the fizzled down expectations of teams starting off on the wrong foot? just maybe? I dunno, whada all think?
