“Sprint Car Racing Epicenter” to Form Over Osky, Aug. 6-7!

Oskaloosa IA (8/2/12) by DarinShort.com. A rare alignment of the “best of both worlds” in Sprint Car racing will converge upon Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa; thus creating a “Sprint Car racing epicenter” during the 17th Annual Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge (FRC) and 11th Annual Casey’s General Stores Ultimate Challenge (UC) this coming Monday August 6th and Tuesday August 7th.

Both events are being held during the Cox Design and Metal Fabrication Inc. Southern Iowa Sprintweek.

Here are quick reference points that every race team and race fan needs to know.

Schedule & Format:

Monday, August 6th – 17th Annual Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge (FRC) featuring a complete racing program for the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series competing for $5,000 to win – or $50,000 to win from the back! And for the first time, the Monday program will also feature a preliminary night for Tuesday’s Ultimate Challenge for non-winged Sprint Cars – so race fans will get a rare chance to see the best of both worlds of 410 Sprint Car divisions on the same night for the price of one! The top two finishers of the non-winged USAC feature will lock into Tuesday night’s Ultimate Challenge feature race. Sammy Swindell has won the FRC the past three years in a row. There are no additional support divisions racing, this is a sprint car-only show.

Tuesday, August 7th – 11th Annual Casey’s General Stores Ultimate Challenge (UC) presented by Searsboro Telephone Company, with the winner of the non-winged USAC Sprint Car feature race taking home a whopping $15,000! A complete program will be on tap for the USAC Sprint Cars; plus for the first time, the Hinchman Racewear Winged 305 Sprint Cars will join the night’s racing program and will run heats and a championship feature. Young Kyle Larson took home the UC honors in 2011, and fans can expect another top-flight group of the world’s best non-winged sprint drivers for 2012. There are no additional support divisions racing, this is a sprint car-only show.

This reply is based on a brief text message received by Carson McCarl from Kyle Larson, but it indicated he was racing both the FRC & UC events.

I'm sure more teams will divulge their official Osky plans once this weekend gets rolling.

Larson will race his 1k with the wing and the Hoffman 69 in the traditional sprintcars. (Kyle is 2 for 2 in the 69)

Can anyone remember the last time Sammy ran a 410 non wing sprinter? I sure can't, but I know it more than just a few years since he has.

Man I wish I was close enough to see the non winged Ultimate Challenge, it should be a great show.

Sammy spanked the field during the Knoxville Nationals 6 or 7 years ago when they had the nonwing memorial race on Friday night.

If I remember right the whole deal felt like a slap in the face to the non wing boy's before the flag ever dropped, and I'm not talking about Sammy.

I brought my post from SCRAFAN.COM over here for ya Hawker, with a slight edit. It would sure be nice if you could make it over; good stuff!

Not only will the ovals be a great show again and as usual on Nov 1st and 2nd, our Hall of Fame Classic here in AZ on October 26 and 27, will be great show AGAIN as well..http://www.canyonspeedwaypark.com/2012/07/hall-of-fame-classic-tickets-on-sale-now/ A lot of my Cali friends, and many of us home boy's here in AZ have already bought our seats for both shows.

You have to remember that like Indiana, SCali, AZ, and New Mexico is non wing country too, so the car count will be just fine.

The show at Canyon the weekend before had all the top USAC guy's plus the CRA/USAC boy's, that along with more than a few AZ hot shoes thrown in made it a great show. Some of my Cali friends said it was some of the best racing the'd seen all year, and have already bought tickets. And for those Perris hard cores to say that, you know it was good.

Is this what Hawker and Big Fish are refering to?

Sammy Swindell won the Zimmerman Challenge at Knoxville on the opening night of the Nationals. The 14-car non-wing event was fun to watch. It included J.J. Yeley, Dave Darland, Damion Gardner, Cory Kruseman, and many more. (Doug Johnson photo)
