both drivers missed the call for their qualifying night feature and pushed their cars out onto the track to protest. One of them parked under the flagstand AFTER Doug had given the "lights out, one to go" signal and the field passed underneath him but I can't remember which.

It was Mark, though I don't think 1985 was his rookie year. His crew pushed the car on the track and it had to be towed off before the feature started.
If this post isn't results, stories or something c
constructive, it isn't me!

You're the stat man, my memory bank yields to higher authority.
Both incidents were highly entertaining and if I remember right, mildly controversial. Time puts a better perspective on things, but I suspect that 21 years from now we will be talking about the 06 National's major controversy in much the same way.

Mark Kinser's Knoxville Nationals Rookie effort: 1984: 20th in the B.
Why did Chuck Gurney earn the Rookie Honors in 1985, when finished 22nd...
The late Dave Bradway Jr., made his 1st Nationals appeance in 1985 too, and he finished an amazing 8th. What was the deal with that?
The same rationale as the Joey Allen selection of 1988, or the Joey Kuhn / Greg Hodnett deal in '90?
I know, I know, old news, who cares, been talked to death about it and these new fans could care less. It's cool now, this Rookie selection got cleared up after a while. Was kinda shaky there for a while.
