Morning Everyone,
TGIS! I wanted everyone to know that the ASCS Regions, Lone Star and Sooner, are at Cowtown tonight in Kennedale. I haven't seen a race there in a while but I know that the track was fantastic for sprints in the past - high banked, 1/4 mile with lots of passing. I am sure it is still great.
If you don't have plans, make it out tonight and support the track and racers. I remember there were some great tasting burgers also.
I am taking a friend (unless he cancels on me) so try to bring someone also that would enjoy the event.
Kevin

I'll be leaving for the track in an hour. The only problem is 6 support classes racing and right now it is 104 in the shade.

Your are correct MacTexas. 6 other classes. Bummer. But I understand, Cowtown gotta take care of what few hanger-ons he still has. 104 temp and who knows how many cars, what do you think track condition will be for the sprints. Will just try to have fun. Oh, and I noticed a bikini contest, that pays as much or more as 5 of the car classes. The promoter figured out how to pay for that, hun???

Think City Vending is paying for the bikini contest. I think track conditions will be dry slick and one lane but it's Sprint Cars. I would rather be in Indiana at Haubstadt tonight but it's too far to drive so Cowtown will have to do.

Report from Cowtown.
Well, I have to say that there was some great racing tonight. There were only about 25 sprints I was told but it was well worth the drive from north Dallas. The track got dried out at the end but with that many sprints for the A Main, on such a small track, it was still great to watch.
We had a little rain and cloud cover which helped keep the heat away but it was so humid after the rain shower. My burger wasn't as good as I remembered but I was pretty hungry and ate it anyway...with cheetos...and a coke.
Although I don't race due to management(my wife), I enjoy sitting in the Pit stands and walking the Pits to see all the hard work. Catching stories from racers and their friend/families is great also. Lot of laughing tonight.
Oh yea, there was a bikini contest. My lazy butt didn't see it but I could hear the crowd.
I was there really for the sprints but it was fun to see others enjoy the other classes, especially if their kids are racing.
Outta Here,
Kevin

Cowtown generally runs the sprint A main first or 2nd before the track goes completely away. It was black dry from top to bottom for the last race - the "big" modifieds, but it was still one of the better races of the night for most of it - even if I am a sprint & midget purest. They ran 24 sprints in the A main. Mike Goodman won. According to my notes - so unofficial... Robert Sellers 2nd followed by Martin Edwards, J.P. Bailey, George White, Kevin Ramey and Andy Shouse. Matt Covington pulled off the track while running 6th (after starting 17th).
I almost didn't go to Heart of Texas Fri. night because they had 10 classes - but they did something that it would be nice if more tracks would do.... The usual 8 classes that they race weekly they had only the A feature for each of them and then had full heats and features for the 30 ASCS Gulf South sprints and about 15 ASCS II 600 mini sprints. I'm glad I went. The tracks at Heart of Texas and Cowtown appear very similar to me from the stands. 1/4 mile high banked.

It was a good crowd but late arriving because of the heat. The rain shower was just what the track needed. Track was really good for the feature. The feature was good with a lot of lapped traffic coming into play. Glad I went and the bikini contest took too long. I was there to see racing.

You got that right Mac. Heat was factor, but a pretty good crowd. Those of us who come to see racing, particular sprint cars, just have to accept the extra stuff. I was really concerned about the number of classes, but the car count on those classes was much less than I remember the last time I went to Cowtown (of course for another sprint car race) so the show moved along at a good pace, could have been quicker with some planning/organization. No panic from promoter-in-training with infield lighting hiccup, got it handled someway. And the bikini contest took way too long but was entertaining for those who could see it and some bodys deserving daughter got $500. Rain was refreshing and track prep after that was supurb, thanks Bo. Thanks to ASCS officials for doing another terrific job with some local challenges. See ya in Lawton.

Agreed, the track was super for the feature, great racing. My first trip to Cowtown, lots of classes and filler, allthough a few of the bikini girls were smokin'. Disappointed in the car count, hope it's better at
Lawton, about 3 hours closer to home, too.

The Gulf South how was at Battleground Speedway. There was a Louisiana Bayou Sprint (RACESAVER), 16 cars, at 105 Speedway.... And WILLIS had a regular (RACESAVER) Sprint show, 9 cars there.. Lots of Sprintcars in Southern Tx this past weekend. Not to mention other North Tx. Sprint races.. It would be ineresting to know just how many Sprint cars DID race Sat. In the State of Texas..!!!!
Anyone..????

I was voting for the girl in the red bikini - as were the guys I was sitting with.
The women's restroom is the best in the nation - that I have seen. I guess the guys don't take care of their facilities.
I didn't but my usual chicken strip basket - so I can't comment about the concessions They have usually been good.
The best concessions have been at Longhorn Speedway - Kilgore. Next to that the burritos at Devil's Bowl - but then I'm going back to when there were some good folks there. I guess they might still be good. I just got cony dogs Sat. night.
Track was still good for the sprints. Not mamy of them - but still a good race.
