This is strictly just out of curiosity, would anyone go to the racetrack for an all day event? Meaning, hotlaps and qualifying would start at noon or 1pm, there would be multiple classes (410,360,wingless,midget,etc) and each class had two feature programs (2 qualifying sessions, 2 sets of heat races, 2 features per class). Too much racing?

I would kill to go to that event under the following conditions....
1) have it somewhere in Missouri so I can get there...
2) Drop the 2nd round of time trials and use that time to rework the track a couple times...use the same qualifying session to set both races, inverting one completely and going heads up on the other race.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

A couple of years ago the Friday night racing of the Knoxville Nationals were rained out. They had an afternoon make up race. Even at Knoxville, even during the Nationals, the races were not very good.
Even though most seats were sold, the attendance was way off. Day racing on dirt is usually a losing deal.

That's the way the old Fairgrounds tracks used to do it back in the 50's and 60's. All racing was in the afternoon, there was one class of cars and I believe start time might have been around 2pm. In the evening they'd setup a stage and use the grandstand for other types of entertainment. People talk about the good old days and the rooster tails but mostly I remember the vendors on machinery hill off turns 1&2 at the Minnesota State Fair complaining about the dust.

Not likely.
The only way I would consider going is if it was held in early spring or late fall and I really wanted to see some racing.
It would have to be close by, cheap tickets and it would need to be a cloudy overcast type of day.
I'm not interested in seeing a rubber down freight train even if its free to get in.

The Sunday afternoon nats make up day was awful. The most amazing part was in two hours between events the track surface was totally overhauled and it was an awesome night of racing. Kraig kinser won that night. That was the same nats that screwed McCarl out of fast time when rain fell during the 4th heat and wiped out the whole program
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Went to the Labor Day Classic at Port Royal twice and will never go back. Heats started at 2 I believe and was a follow the leader show, all day.

They let him keep his track record, though. Quite an uproar over that.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

I'd be there . Never to much racing . Even if I needed a catnap in between track workings .id still be there .id eat all the bad stuff for me . I'd buy as much crap as I could to support the teams . I'd fart burp drink dirty everything . Find every channel I could on my scanner . And talk as much trash as I could . I'd cheer , laugh , and have a grand time . And I'd be even happier if we did it two days in a row.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

IMCA and AAA used to have alot of day races in sprints and champ dirt cars. IMCA had alot of fair dates that were often during day, AAA seemed to be 50% day and night as I remember it. Dirt tracks could then use calcium carbonate on tracks, this kept tracks damp as it draws in moiture in air. WE went because we only had 1 chance to see sprint races a year. In those days they just had 1 class that ran. IMCA then had 200 lap stock car races during day, it was terrible dusty, but we went.

I would go and I am sure they would make it work. It would take me back to the old days at Terre Haute, Syracuse Mile, etc. I would attend for sure.

Some of my favorite races were the daytime Cheater's Day shows at the old fairgrounds track in Sioux Falls. Snow, wind, dust, hot, cold and everything in between for weather, but the racing was always a lot of fun. I remember Denny Oviat dropping $20 bills from the crows nest into the crowd.
Several classes of cars, but the sprint cars were the show - and usually with "cheater" equipment, so you never knew what you were going to see. Huge oversize wings, side panels that ran the entire length of the car, oversize tires, even a little nitrous every once in a while. They would water the infield pits and the edges of the track continuously to keep the dust down. But I remember seeing some great racing, even if conditions weren't the best.

Terre Haute tried this last year with Silver Crown. The results were disastrous.

I miss day races. Day races always seemed to have a special "feel" or "atmosphere" to them. I have seen some outstanding day races and have seen some real dogs, too. The good ones were always wingless. My suggestion, nonwings with a support class that doesn't put a lot of wear or downpressure on the track, and, if you want to have any track at all left for the feature, just run one round of qualifying and heats.

Yes I did for years at Super Dirt Week in Syracuse Ny on Moody Mile ; The Outlaws Race there in afternoon and then races at Rolling Wheels at Night and some of the day races were good espically 1992 between King And Haud ! Even The some of the Modified Races were okay that why i kept going ever since earl 80s !!

I agree. You never new who would show up, and what modifications teams would come up with. The speeds for day races were pretty crazy with the big side boards. Forbrook always had some interesting aero packages.

I have been to a couple at All Star shows at Eldora in the mid-90's. Races were not to bad, just dry and slick. But at Eldora slick from wall to wall makes for a great show.
