Will the people that run the races at the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa ever do anything about the uncalled for rough, dangerous driving of the #97 sprint car driven by Bret Mellenberndt? What he did to Brandon Stephenson last Friday was a bonzi crazy move and he should have been DQ'ed. I found out from others there that this is NOT the 1st time he has taken someone out. Will it take an injury before they do something? I hope not. JMO

I'm not sure there is grounds for DQing someone for being stupid. Maybe there is, IDK.
IMHO the best thing would be for the other racers to "take care of it".
Anytime an opportunity presents itself punt him into the grass.

I was at the race and Brett is over driving his experience. There is a difference between a smart driver and a stupid driver and sorry but Brett is just Stupid. He has a VERY fast car and he knows it but if you cannot handle the car and pass people safely then learn how to drive or get off the track. Brett is a better driver then that I have seen him kick ass but lately he is dangerous

How old is Brett?
Assuming he is related to Bill, is he the son or grandson? If he is a grandson did his dad race 10-15 yrs ago?

Its called rough driving and i have seen cars get the black flag for it at other tracks. guys wanted to do something about it in the pits but for some reason the officials got there before they could. LOL trust me i was about 50 feet away.

also this is what the flagman wrote on the nmra board.
I was told that it was a slide job gone bad and that sprint cars are their own breed of cat. So to leave the finish stand. I guess i dont get that. A racer is a racer no matter what class he or she is driving in. Treat them all the same. JMO kenny schilling

Ask the track crew/safety crew/officials from Valley Speedway in Missouri how they feel about this particular driver.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

Pretty sure he's related to Bill. I don't know if he is a son or grandson but in the early '90s Chad Mellenbrandt used to do quite well in a yellow 97 car at Husets. I suppose Chad is probably old enough to be Brett's father but I don't know their family tree. Anybody know?

I was there too. Couldn't agree more with your assesment. He should have been DQ'd.

If this is really what the flagman posted, he should be replaced. He is in control of the race. The 97 should have been DQ'd.
