Mark Dobmeier – Win
#7 on the Year!

June 28, 2012 – The
Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports #13 and their driver Mark Dobmeier picked up their
seventh win of the season last Friday at his home track of River Cities
Speedway. After a second consecutive rainout at Knoxville Raceway, the team
suffered a bit of bad luck resulting in a DNF at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday
night.
It was business as usual again in Grand Forks, as the team
continued their undefeated streak during weekly competition at the tight 3/10
mile bullring. Mark also regained the point lead, despite missing a race
earlier in the season to race with the Outlaws. The win came from the ninth
starting position and was his sixth of the season at the track, and the 91st of
his storied career.
“The car was just awesome as usual the entire night,”
Dobmeier says. “We were still a little disappointed after not winning the Outlaw
show (the week before), and we were determined to pick up where we left off and
we did that. My crew puts in long hours during the week and weekend and I just
want to thank them as this car is a joy to drive.”
The 640 mile trip to Knoxville Raceway from Grand Forks was
next for the team, but it would be a short trip as the races were called as the
team just had rolled into the pit area. The Senske & Son/J&J still
continues to sit third in points there, and are really eager to get back on the
track to try to take over the top spot as they look for their first career
track title at the historic half-mile.
It was back to the Dave Lunstra’s shop outside of Brandon to
get some rest after the long day on the road, and the team would prepare for
the weekly Sunday tilt at Huset’s. Mark would set his third overall quick time
of the year, and second at the 3/10 mile short track with a lap of 11.063
seconds. A good run from seventh to third in the eight lap heat, set the Right
Choice Electric #13 to start sixth in the night’s ‘A’ feature.
Unfortunately, bad luck would strike early in the feature
when Mark would spin out in turn two as he backed it into the concrete wall. A
severely bent left rear tire and broken Jacob’s ladder resulted in the first
DNF of the entire year for the team. The hard working crew wasn’t able to get
the repairs done in the allotted time, but the car is still only eight points
behind Terry McCarl in the point standings heading into the last tune-up this
Sunday before the World of Outlaws race on Tuesday, July 3.
“We are timing in the top two every week so that is a
positive heading into Outlaw show,” Mark admitted. “Unfortunately, someone
threw up some water off the inside berm in the ‘A’ and that caused us to get
greasy and to spin out to end our night. The track was going to be real racy
and I feel like we would have had something for Justin (Henderson), but it just
wasn’t in the cards. We’ll be back looking to improve, and obviously we have
that Outlaw race circled next Tuesday.”
Friday plans for the team are still up in the air. Depending
on work schedules on Friday, there is a chance the team will head to the
Belleville High Banks for the Outlaw show, otherwise if that does not work out they’ll
be at home in Grand Forks for the weekly show. Saturday includes the weekly
show at Knoxville, Sunday at Huset’s for the last Outlaw tune-up, and then the
Outlaw show itself on Tuesday the 3rd. Stop on by after the races to grab an
autograph card and to chat with Mark and the crew!
