why put decals on your car if the company never did a thing for you. You see a car with 20 decals on it and some would think these companies have paid you money as a sponsor or gave you the items. I understand that WOO and others require certain decals. For the average racer why would you want to make it look like you were a well healed team.

Thats exactly the reason. They want to LOOK like a well funded team with a lot of sponsors. That would attract more sponsors in my opinion. They look at that car with a bunch of decals on it and say hmmm maybe this guy is a good one to sponsor. They are under the impression that they have many sponsors. JMO...

They're required to be eligible for certain contingency awards in most series.

The cars do not have all those stickers on the to look "well healed" The driver/owner is required to display required decals of series sponsors/products for eligibility to benefit from any funds that particular sponsor provides. This is for all race groups be it WoO, IRA etc... It gets you paid more for heat race wins if the sponsor puts up extra money. It also gets you rebates and sometimes free items. Nothing wrong with it. This is how you get tow money and other things to help during the season. money does not grow on trees and sponsorship is hard to come by these days for the average racer.
