Lee Co. Speedway
Donnellson, IA
Tribute to Kevin Doty
POWERi Midgets
13 cars
Heat one (started): 1. Brad Loyet o5 (6) 2. Kenny Biro 22 (1) 3. Brett Anderson 11 (5) 4. Tim Siner 15 (3) 5. Steve Knepper 55 (4) 6. Kenny Brown 17 (2) 7. Doug DeWitt 11D (7)
Biro got the early jump in the 8 lapper from the pole. Loyet who is deemed "Mr. Excitement", battled with Anderson on his way through the pack and took the lead from Biro on lap six.
Heat two (started): 1. Brad Kuhn 43NZ (5) 2. Cody Brewer 96 (3) 3. Dave Camfield Jr. 86c (4) 4. Thomas Chandler 1T (2) 5. Garett Hood 11H (1) 6. Mike Hess 51 (6)
Chandler led the first lap, but Hess was a rocket after electing for the tail, and led the second circuit. A nozzle came loose on the next go-around, and he pulled into the pits. Brewer assumed the lead, but relinquished it to a hard-charging Kuhn.
A main (started): 1. Loyet (6) 2. Anderson (2) 3. Kuhn (5) 4. Biro (3) 5. Hess (12) 6. Brewer (4) 7. Knepper (9) 8. Siner (7) 9. Chandler (8) 10. Brown (11) 11. DeWitt (13) 12. Camfield Jr. (1) 13. Hood (10)
The car count was a disappointment to say the least, especially with the race being a Tribute to the late great Kevin Doty. Kevin Doty Jr. was there to wave the green and checkered flags, and the missing man formation started things off with class. Despite the lack of numbers, the feature was a good one. Anderson, who cashed in a victory at Granite City last week, led early in the 25 lapper, with Loyet quickly moving into second. The field strung out a bit before Camfield Jr. came to a stop while running fourth on lap 13. Anderson led Loyet, Kuhn, Biro, Brewer and Hess back to green flag racing. Loyet now had the faster car and tried three slidejobs in the next eight laps in turn two to no avail. Kuhn entered the fray after the restart, with the trio running nose to tail in exciting fashion. Loyet punched the cushion in three and four and slid Anderson one more time on lap 23, this time with success. He pulled away to an exciting win, while Anderson held off Kuhn for the runner-up spot. Hess earned hard-charger honors moving up seven spots.

For 13 cars they put on a good show but if that is all that they can get for that kind of purse plus the bonus of $2000 if you win both then it won't be worth the gas money it takes to get to Knoxville.

The story going around the pits had most of the drivers from Powri saving their stuff for Knoxville. Didn't understand that logic, as Lee County is a great place for midgets and a great facility...

Boy thats sad,13 cars for a Kevin Doty Memorial race.
Better to have it at Belle Clair and get a decent car count.

short of car, maybe, short on action? NO WAY those cars were changing places faster than a swinger at a party!
lead swap 5 times in last 5 plaps for sure.
These cars were great, they look perfect on a short track.
The big tracks not so much, but the long quarter at Donnellson is a perfect venue.
Besides, they didn't have late models as a suppost class! lol
BTW many thanks to Dave Hill for his class on sensitivity given at Lee County.

What are you talking about Dave? Duane's always been a 'well-rounded' race fan.

IMO, if a guy has to miss a race on a bullring to "save his stuff" for Knoxville, then I'd have to say that he probably doesn't have a shot in hell at winning at Knoxville.

It was nice meeting you also, and the Hobby Stocks were fantastic!!! darn near as good as USAC Silver Crown cars at Knoxville.
Dave I thought I could trust you, but now I will have to tell everybody about you and Hillary!

That was a hell of a race from the video that was posted on here.
If I was Terry Hoenig, I'd be very unhappy that POWRi only brought 13 cars. Even if it was just over 20, a full field feature would've been a lot better.
