The WoO is at Lakeside this Saturday, I've never been there before. Should I spend the money to drive 200mi plus tickets to see the WoO or drive 30 miles for weekly Knoxville that I already have tickets to? Anybody know what the average car count is for the Lakeside show and are the track conditions typically good? Its been so dry and hot all week I hate to head down for a rubber down show.

Knoxville always puts on a good weekly show. IMO, you would get more for your money there than wasting the gas.

I go to Knoxville every week so just wasn't sure if it was worth venturing out for something different. Probably just stay at Knoxville I believe its twin feature night for the 360s as well.

Last time I went to a WoO show at Lakeside the track was so terrible that the race was to see who could get to the bottom of turn 1 first. Mark Kinser (that gives you an idea of how long ago it's been) was the one to get there first. If I'm not mistaken, Mark lapped ONE car and no one else lapped any. The only way to pass was if a car missed their line going into the turns. They were nose to tail like a ribbon around the track. I swore I would never go back there for a WoO show again. Guess what? I'm going Saturday night. Lol. Given the weather we've had this week, along with the forecast and how the WoO are known for shutting the water trucks down too soon, I'm afraid it's going to be the same scenario. Hoping I get a pleasant surprise.

The worst part about the upcoming Lakeside race will be car count, or lack thereof....without being able to count on a handfull of the Knoxville regulars being there (due to a K-ville weekly show the same night) I am going to guess that you see a total car count of 20 cars...no more than 25, and if there are 25 at least 8 of them will be local 360s...an ASCS regional race a couple hours away in Caney, KS will limit the number of 360 cars that would come, and other than a couple of local nonwing cars with big motors there aren't any 410s in the area anymore.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

If you wanna see Kinser win, then go to Lakeside. If it were me, and I already had tix and it was a shorter drive, I'd go to Knoxville. But I think you already knew the answer to your question.

Knoxville for sure. Plus it is twin features for 360's. Lakeside will be carving rubber off the track on Sunday am after the races are over..

It's hard to beat weekly shows at Knoxville the last few years but I've gone to Lakeside the last 2 years and have been very impressed. Very fast and racy 3/8 high bank and has been very well prepared. 20-25 cars with a few being 360's. B-mods have been the support class but were really fun to watch both years. Treat yourself to a trip down some time. It's always been fun in the camp area before and after the races also.

I really wish that a 30 mile drive would get me to a sprints only show with 50+ cars on the infield for a $15 ticket.
That is a no-brainer.
As it is I'll go to the ASCS race up here and suffer through 3 hrs of support classes for $25.

I am contributing only to support Lakeside's excellent track conditions .........week in and week out for the regular show of A-mods,B-mods,Grand Nationals and Factory Stocks which are growing in appeal because of the now present television coverage.
Cannot dispute the likelihood that Steve Kinser may win but it has the possibility of a surprise with the amount of talent that travels with the WOO these days.
The track will be smooth and only the WOO can predict how much water will be laid down but when it's tacky it's a racy place to see some pros do their thing.
Hope we see you in K.C. but if not have fun wherever you decide to go.

Lakeside ususally has very good conditions. For weekly shows they work the track to keep it racey and it usually does not dust over. Even last week with all of the heat, the dust was miminal. Lakeside also has one of the most efficient programs around. They start on time. All of thier employees know their jobs, and they have some really good announcers.
The WOO car count could be an issue. Last year they had 24 cars, and I would expect around the same amount this year.
Someone else mentioned the picnic/camp area. Every racenight at Lakeside has a buzz about it. Every racenight feels special, and the special shows are off the chart.
You can not go wrong by going to Lakeside.

I was at that show MSF and they were actually running into the grass in turns 1-2 were I was shooting from that night, it was kinda funny. That was the only bad show I ever saw there tho' as far as track conditions are concerned. It is a very nice facility with even nicer people running the place and on staff, always enjoyed it there. The fans were also very supportive of this wandering photog at my booth, might call you on Sunday for your race recap, enjoy....

Just to clear things up, I wasn't knocking Lakeside in general. I have seen some very good shows there. My concern is the combination of Lakeside's type of surface, the WoO's seemingly desire to shut the water trucks down a bit too early, and the weather. I guess it's not fair to judge the event on one race. Sounds like more recent WoO shows have resulted in a better track. That's why I'm going again Saturday. Guess I was sort of "once bitten, twice shy." Mike, too bad you didn't get to experience the old Lakeside. I loved that place. Do give me a call Sunday if you get around to it. One good thing that came out of that night is that's where I bought my Sammy Swindell OreCal/Beefpackers/Roth Motorsports "Back in Black" t-shirt.

I live 30 mins from Lakeside and am much considering driving the 200 to Knoxville for their race...If no chance of rain...will head there I imagine....If I wanted to see a B-Mod race I would go to Valley speedway a half hour the other direction.
Lakeside= 2 tix at $35 plus $10 gas=$80 or Knoxville 2tix at $15 plus $65 gas=$95
I'll pay the $15 to see 410's & 360 double features and some friends any day

Knoxville is, no doubt, the cat's meow, but do to work, if I headed for Knoxville I would have met you on your way home by the time I got there. I'll be doing good to get to Lakeside before the heats start. Speaking of Valley, I'm really looking forward to their USAC show the Saturday before the Nationals.

Any time you get a chance to see Kinser,or Swindell race you should take it,you never know how much longer they will race.Lakeside has been real good the last few years, and just plain awesome when they had the non wing shows there, and yeah it will be hot but if you wait for perfect weather in the Midwest you won't get out often.
