What kind of car count can be expected for the USAC sprint car events at Wilmot Raceway and Sun Praire Raceway on the 23rd and 24th. Will Kyle Larson be there?

I am sure it will depend on how many locals take the wing off. Somebody answered my same question with a guess of about 30 or so, and that is for Wilmot, not sure about Sun Prairie....

According to the schedule shown on KyleLarsonracing.com--Kyle doesn't plan on racing at either Wilmont or Sun Prairie. His schedule shows on Sat. June 23rd he'll be racing in the K & N Pro Series East in Langley, VA and on Sunday night the 24th he'll start a number of nights of racing in the All Star--Ohio Sprint Week. Sure wish he was going to be in WI those two nights.

is it that easy, just popping off the wings? same 410 motor, chassis, wheel base etc.?

I would assume that most of the big classes would run just about the same get up as others, just to maintain some continuity. IRA guys regularly run with the outlaws, with minimal change, if any, so I cannot see that running with USAC would be that much different, except for basic cosmetic changes.

There is more to it than just taking the wings off, wider front axles, different shock package, different wheel offsets(you can space your wheels differently and get by with what you have) and if you really want to get technical, different birdcages and completely different set up.

I understand all of that. The Wilmot website says that Tommy Sexton will be popping the top so they can't be too far off to conform to USAC. Besides, the more cars, the merrier....

thank you! I have always wondered. Same motor? what about gears? I'd imagine the gearing would have to change a bit w the loss of all that downforce...

In all that was written, there is nothing that will prevent these guys from running with USAC, unless they cannot get ahold of a Hoosier. A little bit of work, but what else are they going to do? Weekend off or race?

IRA races Friday night at Oshkosh. Anyone who wants to run with USAC will. Just how many is the question.... Also on the Wilmot website thay list the following drivers: Jon Stanbrough, Levi Jones, Dave Darland, Damien Gardner, Tracy Hines, Bryan Clauson.

Motors and chassis are basically the same, although some wing guys might run their motors a little further foward than the non wing guys do but thats nothing you can't adjust for,and wing motors got a little different cam in them but then again nothing you can't adjust for. You would definitely run a different gear with the wing car versus the non wing car at the same race track.

thank you! I find this stuff very interesting. if I didn't have a brand new daughter on my hands, I'd probably be pitting for someone, just to learn all this stuff.

There are a few more of us planning on taking the wings off I believe. I will be making my debut attempt at non-wing racing. As for the difference between a wing and non-wing car it depends on the components bolted on. Yes there are parts designed toward non-wing racing such as bird cages, but I have wrenched on winged cars that finished well in non-wing races in the past. Do we have an up hill battle against some of the top non-wing teams -- probably. This is an opportunity to explore a form of racing that we don't see much in this area. My team enjoyed taking an opportunity to explore pavement sprint car racing when HOSS came through the area in 2006 and we enjoyed the change. Hope to enjoy another new adventure in the sport, see you all there Saturday.
