During the past few months I've thought about posting the following comments but never had the enthusiasm to actually take the time to post them. I guess today's main page on Hosehead's (four photos) pushed me over the top so here goes. In my mind (what's left of it) there's few things lamer than Victory Lane photographs with the flag man (starter per Duane Sweeney) in them holding a checkered flag. Don't get me wrong--I think flag men generally do a great job of keeping the racing safe and orderly--I just think they don't belong in Victory Lane. What, if any, racing pet peeves do you have??

The flagman is okay just as long as a "Leslie Bremmer" is there too. Remember her? Wow,everybody wanted to get to Victory Lane and all the people stayed to see her too.....as they say "Unbelivable".

One of my pet peeves, and this goes along with a previous ASCS post, is not being able to explain who/why/how a car is transferring to the A main. I love the ASCS, and their racing is great. That said, you shouldn't need a Doctorate is Mathematics to figure out who transfers to the A after the heat race is over.
***Full disclaimer, I have been to approximately 70 tracks, every major sanction, and races in over 20 states. If I am having the problem, I cannot imagine how a casual observer feels***

A second Pet Peeve is lack of pit announcers. There are a lot of great stories that are waiting to be told, and yet so few tracks invest the money and time to provide a solid pit announcer. It isn't that expensive and add's a lot of flavor to the show. I saw the WoO at Farmer City and Johnny is great, but they could have given us a lot better show with a couple of interviews and some flavor about the track if they had done a better job.
I think the way Port Royal for the Wiekert, as well as Husets/Knoxville weekly, do their pit reporting is great.

I don't like it when local announcers try to split time with Johnny Gibson for the outlaws. I'm not sure how many places this happens, but I have noticed it at my local track (Huset's). They can take the support class, just please let us fans enjoy the best announcer calling out the outlaws!

pictue with flagman is sort of proof that you won the race. this will be valuable 30 years from now when you are talking to the folks at the nursing home.

The fact that the Outlaws no longer bring their own scoreboard. That was so nice for seeing fast times and who the leader is and what lap. I know some tracks have their own and some have a nice one, but it seems like I always end up at the track that doesn't and their lap counting board doesn't even work right. Doesn't really affect my life, just something I always notice when its not there.

Guys sliding off the top of a banked track that has no walls and having a clean shot at just driving back on the track but stopping instead to draw the yellow fries me more than most. Close second to that is a car that is in a class that is self-starting waiting until they draw a yellow to re-start and continue on.

Single file restarts with a cone.... Also not taking out the lapped cars on restarts.

Really? I like it at WG when Gibson and Ellis alternate but I like Bruce's announcing better than Johnny. If you have 2 very good and knowledgable announcers, then it is a good thing.

Yeah, pit announcers are great. It's always interesting to hear from a few drivers during the down time. The grove is the only track I know that does this central PA. Port doesn't usually have one, must have been just for the Weikert race.

I agree with the single file restarts, but don't with the lapped cars. I feel if the leader had to lap them so does everyone behind the leader. He worked to get around the lapped car why shouldn't anyone else?.

Inadequately trained, equipped, staffed safety crews. Safety should always be number one priority of promoters, owners, drivers, teams, sanctioning bodies, and fans. Many tracks have excellent fire/safety personnel and should be applauded. Some tracks "appear" to have proper equipment/training but in appearance only. And then some tracks for whatever reason, mostly funding, have almost non-existent fire/safety personnel/equipment. I have been to a track where no ambulance was present. That was a night of mega anxiety. I have been to a track where only minimal personal/equipment were present with lack of proper training, particularly fire suppression knowing how to handle methanol fuel fires. I am confident there is no ill intent, but safety of drivers, teams, and fans should be priority one. Accolades to those tracks who place safety first by staffing/training/equipping their rescue crews. I have been fortunate enough to attend races from Elma, Washington to Volusia, Flordia.....many, many excellent crews...got to include Knoxville in the best....

I must be the odd man out here, and I don't want to start anything, but I HATE double file restarts. They just breed yellows. I would agree with putting lap cars in the rear, ok, maybe just my car when it is lapped.
