Does anyone know how the point system/invert works at Knoxville for the weekly lineups?

J, it depends on the number of cars. In the 410 and 360 formats, the heat invert is generally six, the quick timer draws for the feature (6, 8, 10 ,12).
The 305 heat invert is 4, and the feature is six.

Do the 305's get passing points in heat races? Just trying to figure out what happened last weekend. The lineup on the board is not how we lined up on the track.

Bill,
Are you sure they don't invert eight in the 305 feature? That's what it looked like the past two weeks.
J, I think the top eight in qualifying needs to run in the top 6 in their heat to make the feature invert of eight. The 7c - Huston (qualified 3rd) was crashed in his heat, thus putting LBJ (qualified 9th) on the pole for the feature.

They did last week. They should let quick time in all 3 classes draw for there class. Or get 3 fans involved go in to three kids draw for the invert. You to get fans involved to keep them coming back they seem to forget that its fans you got to make happy not drivers or officials. Speeking officialing why is it the 305&360 got to be in staging for features but not 410 get close to 10 min. They push off. I also think the 410 should hot laps first or no hot laps like 305 & 360s and do group qualified like 305&360s do.

Matt, you started sixth last week, and Mitchell started eighth the week before, so I'm not sure. There was some confusion on heat lineups last Saturday I know. With all the DQ's and scratches, I think the lineups were confused.
Correct, you have to run top six in any class without a B to make the feature invert...

No passing points for feature lineups, just inverted by time. The point system is consistent now in all three classes. A good way to look at the point structure is to go to the Results page...

With this format, the heats are just glorified hotlap sessions to get your car tuned up for the feature. If there are only 25 cars, why not make them run at least top 5 (top 4 would be better) in their heat to be eligible for the invert !? If someone slides from 4th to 6th, or one of the quick timers just puts it on cruise control and stays 6th, I want to see a consequence!

Without B-mains nothing in the heats really matters.

Thanks for the clarification on this. Apparently the invert is 8 for the 305 class in the feature. I qualified 4th, after Huston fell out that put me 3rd, I started 6th in the feature. With an 8 invert, that is the correct lineup. It just got confusing as the lineup board was nothing like the actual lineup on the track. I don't know if they changed it after I got the lineup or what happened, but if they change the board, they should come let us know before we roll on the track. The original lineup on the board was setup for a 6 invert, the actual lineup was 8.....

The way it is right now, you're right. With low car counts and no B mains, the only thing they can really do to make the heats somewhat relevant is force guys to make something happen & pass somebody to improve their stating position in the featch. Finish outside the top 4 in your heat? --you're out of the invert! Some nights that could mean starting 7th, which wouldn't be horrible... but other nights could mean 13th. Right now it's way to easy.. and the fans are getting cheated.

So if you don't make the transfer in your heat, do they bump up the next person in qualifying, or do they just invert 1 less in the feature?
Ex. I qualify 8th, and they invert 8 in the feature. I don't make the transfer in my heat, so do they bump the 9th qualifier up to do the 8 invert, or do they just invert the 7 that did transfer in their heat?

From my experience they would take the 9th car in time trials

That is correct...they would just bump up the next guy into the invert

They are racing for points in the heats too chilly which you can't overlook, but to bolster your point a bit, with the drier track conditions, most of the guys I've talked to are saving their tire in the heats too..
