For those of you who don't know the details, he was killed in a wingless car last night at Grain Valley, MO.

Jeff was a racer that truly enjoyed every minute he spent at the race track. He always had a smile on his face, even after a rough night. While working as a safety crew member, I always found Jeff quite entertaining. There was a night at US 36 Raceway that Jeff was involved in a crazy battle with another driver. Jeff was running the top as hard as he could. As both cars came off turn 4, the car on the bottom slid high and forced Jeff into the wall. Jeff's car climbed the wall with his right side tires. You could clearly see the top of his wing from the infield. He never lifted and drove the length of the front stretch on the wall. He drove it off the wall going into turn 1 and continued the battle. I was amazed by this feat so I went to Jeff's pit to meet him and describe my view of the battle. Jeff was very engaging and very appreciative of my praise.
Another example of Jeff's enthusiasm came at Valley Speedway earlier this spring at the ASCS Warrior division opener. Jeff ended up doing a "Tommy Tip-Over" while avoiding a mess in Turn 2. When we arrived at Jeff, he was hollering to flip him on to his wheels. The tone of his voice was not one of anger but one of excitement and joy. He had just avoided a crash and was excited to be able to continue in the A Main. We got him upright and I informed him of a significant amount of rear-end fluid that had leaked from the car while he was on his side. In a colorful manner and with a smile on his face, he said he didn't care and that he wanted to race. He signaled for a push and let out a "woo-hoo." He finished the race and gained a few spots.
Jeff was appreciative of the fact that he was able to race. Jeff always seemed to be having the most fun of anybody at the track. His enthusiasm was infectious and his talent had really developed over the past year. I'm going to miss seeing the 0 car at the track. Jeff will be missed and his family is in my thoughts and prayers.
