Hey Mike, I told the wife as we approached Winslow on I-40 that we should exit and stand on a corner there. She said that was the stupidest thing she had ever heard of. I explained the significance of it and the song and about it being one of your favorite places. Well, needless to say, we blew right on through. Maybe next time. But, Take it easy.

The group was never in Winslow either. The name just fit into the song so they used it. True, check it out.

Dave, the group may have never been in Winslow (they never claimed to be either) but I know that at least one of them has been there. There is a brick that has been purchased by Don Henley which says something along the lines of 'There are 3 sides to every story, yours, mine and the truth that lies theirin' or something pretty close to that. There are bricks signed there from all over the world, most of which are dedicated to the song and have been donated to lost loved ones, many from the Vietnam war.....

Winslow IS my favorite place in your beautiful country and there are too many reasons to list them all for ya' in this forum, lol. The Eagles were never my favorite band either but I do have a good friend here in London who knows the band and has told me some great stories of spending time with them (he is a former LA Kings hockey player who played there back when they were just starting out, early 70's). I don't know how to post photos but someday I'll put in here the one I sold a whole bunch of from that exact corner, maybe you have seen it back in my sales days? The freeway takes you away from Route 66 where that corner is a part of, many stories about this old historic town, you take care, enjoy your stay in CA and of course, Take It Easy....

Lived in Lewiston, NY, for years and smuggled my share of fireworks back over the Rainbow Bridge and my time spent in Northern BC, (Hudson Hope, building the dam across the Peace River) was special time in a beautiful place. When are you coming back to Knoxville? Miss you, Brother.

Mike, speaking of hockey and more to the point the Kings. I've been a life long fan of them and this year they have renewed my faith in the club. I was wondering if you've had a chance to watch any of their games in the playoffs? They are playing some of the best gritty TEAM hockey I've seen in years. Jonathon Quick is finally getting the accolades for his skill that us Kings fans have known for quite some time. He is outstanding! Dustin Brown is probably one of the best all around players right now, he hits with authority and is a great scorer/leader as well. You mentioned a former Kings your friends with, who might that be? I admit its been rough being a fan of a team that has rarely been successful but either way I'm devout.

Matt, I went to high school with Dave Hutchison and still see him often on Fridays for lunch with a group of other crazies. Few were tougher in his day and he played 10 years with limited talent and a heart as big as a truck, he's the same today just a little more relaxed, lol.....

As a Flyers fan for almost 40 years I of course am hoping that Philly-West with Mr. Richards and Carter (also from here in my hometown, London ON) continue to play as well as they have. Knocking of the number 1 and 2 seeds has never happened before by an 8th seeded team, kudos to your boys. As to Penner, he stunk up the regular season and was lucky not to be traded yet he has come to play this play-off season. Playing more physical has been a plus and I like to think that Darryl Sutter has had a lot to do with that. Richards has been a champion at everything he's ever played in hockey, a born leader and the definition of a team man and currently my favorite player in the league. Go Kings....

Dave, always good bantering with you, enjoy your emails as well, you take care and enjoy the season at Knoxville, all the best my brother...

Jackson Browne wrote the "take it easy" part and most of the rest of it as well.. Browne originally began writing "Take It Easy" in 1971 for his own debut album. His friend and then-neighbor Frey heard an early version and liked it so much that Browne gave it to him for his new band. Frey finished the second verse (including the line "It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford and the resulting single climbed to #12 on the U.S.top 100 billboard..http://www.lyricsfreak.com/j/jackson+browne/take+it+easy_20068523.html

Browne recalled to Uncut magazine August 2010 the story of the song: "During a break in the middle of recording the first album, I took a road trip in this old beat-up Willys Jeep and I went to Utah and Arizona. On that trip I started to write 'Take It Easy', and when I came back, I played it for Glenn Frey, and he asked if the Eagles could cut it when it was done. So I said, 'Just finish it,'

Jackson Browne wrote this for his first album, but he didn't know how to finish the song. He gave it to his friend Glenn Frey, who needed songs for his new band - the Eagles. Frey finished the song and the Eagles used it as the first song on their first album. So what was almost a Jackson Browne song became the first single from the new group the Eagles.

Frey's changes to the song included adding the second verse (and the line "Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona," and stretching out the "E" in "Easy." He considers the song one of the most important Eagles tracks. In an interview with Bob Costas, he said the song represented "America's first image of our band with the vistas of the Southwest and the beginnings of what became Country-Rock."
The Eagles played this live long before they recorded it. It was one of the songs they played when they were doing 4 sets a night at a club in Aspen, Colorado. By the time they recorded it, the song had more of a Country feel.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Mike,

I used to have a Canadian friend that also lived in your area. He was a wanabe night club singer named Richard Taylor. He loved singing at a piano bar. If you ever met him you would not forget him. He was a mixture of East Indian and some kind of Euro, not sure what. A really good singer but had an extreme problem with the booz. I thought maybe you may have run into him. If he is still alive he would be around 60-65.

Bud & the Mrs. How the heck are you guys and that somewhat wild son you have, lol? I do NOT have a van, never had one before, never will have one again. It was simply a business thing to carry around a few thousand photos, frames, golf clubs, ball glove, bowling ball, clothes for all four seasons etc etc etc. I have a couple German made cars and they are a lot nicer to drive, trust me.....

PS I do highly reccomend Chevy Vans though, I put almost a half million miles on one and almost 400,000 on another and for a short time I had a mistake made by the Ford people....

Clothes for all four seasons? I thought shorts and sandals were your entire wardrobe. Kinda like my bib overalls and racing t's. Lol. As for the vans, the black & gold Safari even had a pretty stout back bumper, huh? Miss visiting with you, take care.

We are no longer "van people" either.Still sticking with the bow-tie though. We have TWO HHR's and they are among the best vehicles we have ever had in our 61 years of marriage.

Still having fun watching our favorite passtime (little pun there).Locally it's still Lakeside's excellent menu of racing and will hit the road in June to see some short track midgets,USAC style.

Thanks for remembering some old acquaintances.
