Breaking news you will only find on YOUR racing website, brothers Jeff and Jermoy Hefler have bought the asphat track Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas and are picking up the pavement and replacing it with dirt. They will be competing on Friday nights and running mostly Lawton Speedway rules. Not sure if this includes the championship sprints or not but will find out.

No opening date has been announced as they are not sure how long it will take to pull the asphalt up.

According to Jeff, "My brother and i have raced for close to 35 years. I have won two NHRA world championships in drag racing..My brother started dirt racing about 6 years ago..I have also been the general manager at a few race tracks. It will be alot of work..But we are looking forward to it..we have a complete passion for racing ( all kinds) and both the racers and fans deserve a nice track in Wichita Falls."

Keep tabs on tidbits for more information in the coming weeks.

Sounds like they have the desire.

I hope they run ASCS/RaceSaver 305's.

The 305 class has taken off in west texas. If they were to start it there - Lawton might be able to make the champ sprint island that much smaller. I'm sure a winged 600 class would be in the works as well. Exciting news.

Car counts have not been as strong as what im sure they expected. TheASCS 305 deal in not going to help the poor boy racer, its gonna cost big bucks to be competitive and car counts will not grow with that factor. The idea was brilliant, just change the motor from an ASCS 360 and go but the one thing the 305 class does not need is the full time racers dropping in to take the bacon away from the regular supporters.! What looks good on paper sometime don't work in real life.

If you are on facebook, check out Wichita Speedway Park. They have the before and current pictures of the dirt track up and are updating as they go along.

It is going to happen, just a matter of when.

Thanks David. I was asking about the race track. I have been to several ASCS 305 shows and have been very impressed, always someone to complain about everything though. And I agree completely about the big names running with them, but that only happened at the first show in Cruces, and the guys running for points with that series beat all the names anyway so I really don't think that argument holds much water!

Pretty sure it is a short 1/4 mile. I raced there in a 750 minisprint a few times in the mid ninties on the pavement, wicked fast for that type of car.
