Last night he literally drives through David Gravel and takes himself out along with 1/5 of the field. Last Saturday in Knoxville he drives through the lapped car of Robby Wolfgang and takes himself out of a probable top 5 finish. The week before that he starts on the pole of the A-main and falls back to 18th. At Haubstadt he is credited with a 24th place finish. Has anyone ever explained to this guy, or at least reminded him that one of the better ways to win a race is to finish the race? Not sure what is going on with the Madman, but for some reason, he is making himself, along with many of the other racers exactly that, Mad!

Yes, I remember at the Nationals last year, on camera, after he was walking away from a wreck, he repeatedly called someone else on the track, "an idiot". I was at Eldora and saw his move, and would have to now ask, "who is the idiot?"

In looking at the video sure looked to me that Gravel just made a hard left turn to the bottom and took them both out. JMO

After watching the video from last night, I can't see how you can say that Madsen " literally drives through David Gravel." If anything, appears to me Madsen was holding his line and got squeezed by Gravel.

I haven't seen the footage from this past incident, but I watched Madsen race A LOT when he was a local at Knoxville. He was always good, but there is a reason he has the Madman nickname, he can get pretty wild when he is behind the wheel and will try to tear down the walls and use up every inch of the track. It's not an insult to him it's just the way he drives, fast and wild. When he's on a race track, the inside berm all the way up past the cushion is there to be used.

If you are referencing his pole start at Farmer City, he was leading when he got knocked out by Pitman. That 18th place finish was a result of being the hittee and not the hitter. Pitman drove into the LR side of Madsen's tail tank in the middle of turns 1 & 2.

Not sure how you can blame Madsen for that one. Gravel came down hard on him. Unfortunate as they were both having good nights....

i saw the video the other way around but either way i think he would win his share if he didnt wreck so much. it's like he gets to excited being up front and tries to hard. i would like to see him do good too and wish him good luck.

Controlled Chaos! Keep doing what you do Madman. If it weren't for multiple yellows he would have had the "Kings Royal" so he must be doing something right.
GO MADMAN.......

Looked to me that Gravel was to blame for last nights accident, he definately came down out of his line. I am a supporter of David, but can't put the blame on Madsen for this one.

Gravel was leading going into turn 1 any driver knows in that situation you never go straight to the top on a restart in a half mile.. Watch brown and swindells restartsat Knoxville last weekend... Last I knew whoever is leading going into the turn can go where the hell ever they want to. Madsen thought gravel was gonna slide up and he didn't simple but unfortunate misjudgement. Gravel did nothing wrong

Well I guess so in a manner of speaking, but it can be a very stupid thing to do at times.

Well what I was trying to get at was that if gravel just went to the top madsen would have just gone by, if schatz was in gravels spot he would have done the exact same thing on these half miles on restarts very rarely can you leave the bottom open if you do its easy for someone to slide you because you don't have your speed built up on the top so you defend the slide job on the start like gravel did, that was a textbook restart by gravel madsen just misjudged when gravel was going to slide up and they got together just a racing deal really but unfortunate.

So your saying that Gravel tried to cut him off, but misjudged? Look, just because you're scored as the leader on a restart, it doesn't give you the right to change your line and cut someone off, and I don't care what sized track it is!
Gravel was at the top right, so he didn't have to go to the top, he was already lined up there.
Help me out here, put a period at the end of your sentences please.

"Last I knew whoever is leading going into the turn can go where the hell ever they want to." So anytime someone pulls a wheel up beside the leader, all the leader has to do is move towards that spot and the other driver has to honor the leader and backoff? LOL!!! If that's the case, whoever gets to the first turn of the first lap would win every race. I think the leader can go where the hell ever he wants to IF he has the other cars cleared. If Gravel would have had Madsen cleared and dove to the bottom to block him, THEN it would have been a "textbook" restart. In this instance, it appears to me, it was a case of misjudgement on Gravel's behalf. You need to remember, we're talking about open wheel sprint cars here, not fendered doorbangers. I've often heard the saying, "rubbin is racin." that might work with the fenders, but you start rubbin in open wheel cars and disaster isn't far behind.

I watched the video earlier today and it looked like Madsen slid up, while Gravel came down therefore causing a "racing deal" type of accident. Both drivers were trying to find the right line on the track, ended up going for the same piece of real estate and then collided. In my opinion, no one was to blame it is just how it goes sometimes. It's just too bad it damaged a lot of equipment.
