Gary Wright is very fortunate to escape that fire. Its unfortunate that there were no safety crew members in firesuits prepared to extract Gary from the car. This was real close to another Wolfgang/Lakeside incident. You'd think that people would learn from past tragedies.

I agree with the importance of safety and the effort to make sure tracks are prepared for such things. But to say that was close to the Lakeside deal is a little over the top. I live in Kansas City, home of Lakeside Speedway, I know the lakeside story as well as most. My partner Kirk was sitting 5 rows up from where Doug hit the wall, he saw it first hand. Notice Gary was out of the car before all the other cars could even stop, It looks like he was out in about 6 seconds.
