As I was at the WoO race at Knoxville I noticed that Kerry Madsen was coming through the field and looked like if he got up to the leaders he would of won. As he was running 5th or 4th he got tangled up with a lap car that was in the racing grove. That lap car was Robby Wolfgang. I would of think that if you get lapped you should try to stay out of the way from the leaders and not keep racing for 22nd. So did Kerry have a shot at winning or a top 3, or did he get robbed by Robby Wolfgang?

Faster cars need to negociate thier way through traffic, wether it being a lapped car or "for position" I personnally have been on both sides of this dillema, Ive finished in worse order because of lappers causing two maybe three positions sometimes, Ive passed for position because a lap car, Ive also destroyed two cars because I was being passed, I didnt know where the lead lap car was running strong, nor when, or if, he was going to pass, there is no rearview mirrors in these cars, and thier not out for a evening cruize, alot happens in Knox at that speed and a 10 feet hickup costs you 100 yards, best thing you can try do is hold your line and keep steady pace do nothing out of the unexpected immediatly, bottom line is Robbie recieved a DNF something no driver likes to think about all week, besides a chewed up car, agreed, Its too bad for Madson, everybody loves a strong car barrelin through the field to contest a win, Unfortunatly, thats part of the game.
the 360 feature had the same incident with lappers that led to loss in position, is that the lappers fault? no, 1st and 2nd place cars were running different lines , frustrating, but, no blame, its just part of the game.. JMO

It was hard for me to decide who was at fault in that situation because Madsen usually races way over his head, much like his brother Ian, who flipped 2 times in the same spot in 2 laps, and Robby who usually ends up doing something stupid and ends up talkin someone else out who has a legitimate shot at winning. So in this case I blame both...

Madsen started the race in the 8th position, after 19 laps, he was running 4th or 5th and Kraig tipped over on the initial start? Thats hardly "coming thru the field.
Coming thru the field, is Donny Schatz from 15th to 6th, or the local, Zomer from 21st to 6th or the hard charger Sides from 23rd to 8th.
Kerry had nothing for the top 3 cars....IMHO.
FWIW, Robbies Facebook site says he got taken out..
Didnt see it, dont know..

How did Robby holding his line do something stupid?

I didn't see what happened between the two but last weekend at eagle Wolfgang was being lapped on last lap and was trying to get back by the leader on the last corner and nearly took the leader out after drilling him in the LR with his RF sounds like the kid may need to settle down when he goes down a lap.

Madsen was actually falling back when this occurred. I believe there were about 6 laps left and Madsen/Wolfgang brought out the caution entering turn 3 as Swindell and Brown were coming to the flagstand. Sorry, but no chance of winning.
Person I feel bad for is Zomer. Dollansky was a roadblock in his heat to Zomer and Heskin. Held both up for a couple laps and prevented Zomer from catching Kraig Kinser for 2nd. Would have put him in Dash and who knows... the way he came through the field he might have had a podium if he had started near the front.

Here's some food for thought, before we play the blame game. Go through the WoO results & add up how many DNF's Kerry has had. Are they all someone elses fault as well? or what?
Guess Kerry is just unlucky or something!

Everyone on the track is racing. And nobody needs to get out of any ones way. If Madsen was fast enough to win he should be fast enough to get by lapped cars.

Kerry Madsen wasn't going to win that race, period. Sammy had them all covered.

So you'd rather the lap traffic all quit racing and just drop to the bottom??
WoO races are WON or LOST in traffic (it's almost always been that way).
There were times during the race where the leaders (Brown and Swindell) were very patient as there were 3-5 lap cars in front of them all racing for position. Do you want the tracks to start waving the move over flag like NASCAR does??
I personally don't. I love watching them get to traffic, it's also one of the main reasons why I HATE, HATE double file restarts. Takes away the chance of the leaders catching traffic if there is a yellow with 6 or 7 to go (Sammy wasn't even close to catching traffic yet and the last restart Saturday was with 6 to go as I recall). The restart where they went single file, they caught traffic in 5 laps or less...

I would agree with you here Vande77, but not for the same reasons. Double file restarts in Sprint Car racing is a joke. Seems to me they breed more yellows than they create good racing. But I guess we must all follow the Nascar model. Although I will agree that the racing becomes far more interesting when you factor in lap traffic.

Kerry Madden tweeted that he had a good car but "unfortunately I ran over a wayward lap car running 5th". Does not sound to me like Kerry thinks Robbie did anything wrong.
