Trophy Cup Drawing Early Entrants

Just a couple days after entry information was mailed to the 84 teams that were entered last year, the first ten returns arrived. Teams that entered last year have until May 31st to return their entry to guarantee a spot in this year’s 19th Trophy Cup, offering $20,000 to the champion and a minimum $2,000 for the event to all drivers that start the Saturday night A main.
If 80 or more of the 84 eligible teams meet the deadline, then there are no openings for the 2012 event. However, on the event web site, trophycup.org, an entry blank will appear a couple days after the May 31st deadline. A waiting list will be established from the first additional entries received in the mail to reach a total of 90. In the event that one of the 80 eligible entered teams drops out, then the first team on the waiting list has the option of taking the spot.
If less than 80 teams meet the May 31st deadline, then the entry on trophycup.org can be mailed with entries accepted until 80 is reached. Then an additional ten entries will form the waiting list. Racing in the 19th annual Cup this year is particularly important because it is this year’s group that will form the field in 2013.
It has already been confirmed that the 20th annual Trophy Cup in 2013 will be the last one under the leadership of the Cup’s creator, Dave Pusateri. With continuing sponsorship from Southwest Contractors of Bakersfield, the Cup’s growth will culminate with the event champion receiving $50,000 next year. To be eligible to race in 2013, teams must race the 2012 Cup.
