Gary Taylor / Joe Wood Jr.

To Race At BMS This Friday Night!

Tulsa Oklahoma (April 18, 2012) – Accomplished open wheel dirt car racers Gary Taylor, from Snohomish Washington and now residing in Catoosa Oklahoma, along with Oklahoma City standout Joe Wood Jr. are ready to compete in the 2012 Oil Capital Racing Series season opener at the Brill Motor Speedway this Friday night in Meeker Oklahoma. Taylor will drive the Tim O’Toole owned #15x mount and Wood Jr. will be in the J.D. & Joanie Porter #71 “Hog Wagon” with their sights locked in on that OCRS season opening win. It’s been seven months since the OCRS cars have hit the track, and the teams are back and this time with extra star power.

“This is something that just came together in the last couple of days”, said O’Toole. Gary and I talked (about racing) and since his schedule is open this Friday, I decided to take him to Meeker in my car.” Taylor is a winner in many forms of open wheel racing. Winged sprints, non-wing sprints, midgets, 410 machines, 360 power plants or any size you care to name, Taylor adapts to it all and does very well.

Wood Jr. is another driver that takes it to the front. A hard charger in his own right by winning championships in other 360 sprint car divisions, Wood Jr is no stranger to Porter’s “Hog Wagon” as he has cruised it at speed on a few occasions. The Porter and Wood duo has been known to run a limitedschedule with OCRS yet they work well together. Porter has feverishly worked and massaged his car over the off-season and has the red colored Hog Wagon ready to fire with Wood Jr ready to pilot the 360 champ sprint machine to a victory. “I know JD has worked on his motor program to help us out on the bigger tracks”, said Wood Jr. “Hopefully we will hit more OCRS races than we have been in the past. I’m looking forward to the race this weekend” Wood Jr stated.

These two stalwarts will be just a couple of talent-laden drivers that will look to take the season’s first checkered flag of 2012. Defending OCRS champ Sean McClelland, Mike Goodman, Whit “Gasman” Gastineau, Matt “Mongoose” Sherrell, Danny Smith, Fred Mattox, Jamie Passmore, Kenneth Walker, Kyle Cobb and Wichita’s Mike Peters are just some of the others that are anticipated to tackle the red clay at the Brill Motor Speedway.

An exciting new program will be in store for the OCRS teams as they pull into the speedway Friday night. The “Back Row Challenge” sponsored by “The Oil Medics” will be in effect. The Back Row Challenge is available to the driver who wins the “Pole Dash” race. The Pole Dash race determines how the top six cars line up for the feature event with the winner on the pole and so on. The pole earner will now decide whether to retain his earned starting spot or take the Back Row Challenge and start tail back. If a driver wins from the scratch position, The Oil Medics will award that driver with a $1,000 cash bonus!
