Tulsa
Oklahoma (April 16, 2012)- The sprint cars of
the Oil Capital Racing Series have sat idle for the
past seven months and this Friday night the OCRS
warriors will embark on the 3/8 mile Brill Motor
Speedway in Meeker, Oklahoma. There are a few
exciting things in place for the OCRS series in 2012
and the return to BMS after a hiatus of a few years
is one of them.
“We (OCRS) have looked forward to a return to BMS
for sometime,” commented series president Barry
Grabel. “With the track situated between Tulsa and
Oklahoma City as it is, there is an anticipation of
a hefty car count. We are very eager to get the 11th
season of the OCRS series started and we appreciate
Mark and Debbie Brill for hosting our season
opener.”
Defending and 3 time OCRS sprint car champion (‘02,
‘03, ‘11) Sean McClelland, Whit “The Gasman”
Gastineau, Danny Smith and two three time series
champions in Mike Goodman and Jamie Passmore are all
expected to vie for the win in the opening round of
the 2012 season. As with last season, the series
will be heavily supported by the Goodyear Tire &
Rubber Co. based in Akron, Ohio.
A surprise entry for the season opening event is
that of Wichita Kansas hot shoe Mike Peters. Peters
has a long successful history of winning multiple
feature races in the southern plains. Peters will
bring his own car with a power plant from the Larry
Allen Racing Engines facility to compete in his
first ever OCRS event. “I’ve known Larry for a
period of time and he wanted to do some new things
engine wise. We were talking about racing in general
one day and he asked if I would be interested in
running it (champ sprint motor) and I told him I
would,” said Peters. After the BMS event, Peters
tells OCRS officials that he looks to make the first
three events on the 2012 schedule and he will then
assess his schedule for 2012 and determine other
OCRS events he might be able to compete in.
An exciting new program will be in store for the
OCRS teams as they pull into the speedway Friday
night. The “Back Row Challenge” sponsored by “The
Oil Medics” will be in effect. The Back Row
Challenge is available to the driver who wins the
“Pole Dash” race. The Pole Dash race determines how
the top six cars line up for the feature event with
the winner on the pole and so on. The pole earner
will now decide whether to retain his earned
starting spot or take the Back Row Challenge and
start tail back. If a driver wins from the scratch
position, The Oil Medics will award that driver with
a $1,000 cash bonus!
The gates will open at 4:30pm with racing set to get
underway at 7:30pm. All OCRS teams are urged to come
early as the pit area looks like it will be filled
to capacity that evening.
The wait is over, the cars are
ready, the fans are more ready and the question
remains……………..
CAN YOU HEAR THE THUNDER?
