Watch/listen at roughly the 7minute 30 second mark.

Brian Stickel states that they are looking at HBO Pay Per View for Saturday Night of the Nationals for 2012.

Good move IMO. No commercials for those willing to pay for it and stay home, but without commercials, the paying fans in the stands don't have to wait for TV.

Hopefully this move will encourage people to actually attend again since they can't watch for free at home.

I see this being good and bad. Good for fans who can't be at the races because of rising fuel costs. Even the die hard fans are probably unable to attend now because of costs. Having it on HBO PPV your not going to hook a new fan who might be channel surfing. I know this debate has gone back and forth if it's good for the sport. I don't think it will ever be agreed on. Luckily I'll be at the race in person, and probably DVR the HBO show to rewatch.

Lots of details yet to be provided, but I'll throw some generic ?'s out for discussion.

Would HBO have their own production/filming crew there?

Price?

What kind of promotion/exposure would this receive?

Will the live online stream still be available through Turn 2?

Also, on a side note, you can watch virtually ANY ppv for free, if you know where to look.

Just for starters the amount of people HBO can reach with their advertisement for the show is staggering.

T2 actually doesn't do streaming on Sat night of the Nats due to contractual deals with SPEED in the past years - doubt it would be any different with HBO....

HBO rarely runs promos for their PPV events unless it is Boxing/MMA ... doubt they'd commit much of their precious promo time to a relatively unknown (outside of us) event.

Ya, I meant to say that Turn2 does NOT broadcast the Sat night, only Weds-Fri.

As pointed out, HBO does not really advertise their PPV's outside of their current subscriber base....without knowing the dollars involved to each party, I wonder how many more people have HBO and are willing to buy PPV over Turn2. It just seems to me to be limiting their audience and missing an opportunity to grow their Turn2 revenue.

VanH, I am confused by your comment, please explain.

The Raceway doesn't own Turn2, how would that grow revenue for the Raceway?

I assume that Turn2 pays a percentage of each broadcast purchased to the speedway. (which I assume HBO would do the same).

Other than bandwidth issues (which Turn2 does not seem to have a problem with for weekly shows) I do not see the advantage of HBO vs Turn2 yet.

Will the local radio station still cover the nationals if HBO gets involved? They cover it on the radio and streaming online.

I personally would pay and watch it and in the past I have not bought the PPV from Turn2. It appears to me its a tier higher for the broadcast than it being played 2 months later on speed. My guess is that the production will be good, if HBO has their name on the PPV they're going to make sure that its a good production.

As said before, Turn2 doesn't broadcast the Sat. night show so this would be an opportunity for someone like me who can't make it to the show in person to still be able to watch it live. I'm usually leary of the online feed PPV because paying $30 or whatever it is and then having an issue with the internet or the feed or just poor picture so I would be more likely to buy a PPV through my cable provider. IMO its a step in the right direction, if the PPV sales numbers look good then maybe they would be inclined to do it for more races like Williams grove or the Kings Royal, it gives a good incentive to promote up more big races.

When people comment on only boxing/MMA being promoted by HBO that is because that is pretty much all their PPV consists of, maybe a concert here or there otherwise. When I subscribed to HBO between movies they advertise these things but I wouldn't expect they will buy ad time on TBS as they don't do that for the fights either. I don't know if this will be a huge success but I'd say its worth a shot.

OK, I can see not trusting a signal that comes through the computer instead of the cable box as being a reason that more people might buy from HBO instead of Turn2.

I don't think that is an issue since I have not had an issue with Turn2 other than one time a weak Wi-Fi signal caused stuttering at a friends house....the rest of the time I have bought from Turn2 it was perfect. I have no qualms with the Turn2 production values as the picture is in Hi Def and I can turn off the annoying track announcers (sorry guys, you try to talk to much) if I want.

On the flip side, more people are ABLE to buy from Turn2 since all you need is a computer and not a cable/satellite subscription.

HBO PPV will not attract new fans..... just like the Prelude To The Dream is on HBO PPV, its almost like the race never happened or existed that night unless you're at Eldora in person.

Possible resolution??? (see below)

CBS is showing The Chili Bowl.

AMA Supercross is shown nearly EVERY Saturday night (for WHAT reason I don't know).

Could CBS foot the bill for one LIVE Saturday primetime slot a year to show The Knoxville Nationals???

AMA Supercross is on TV because multiple sponsors pay for it to be on (Lucas Oil, Rockstar, Monster, etc.) and they have a connection to NASCAR as the AMA offices located in Daytona Beach (ironically the same location as the NASCAR offices).

The other reason AMA Supercross is shown live, they don't care what the weather is like, they race indoor primarily and race in the rain when they run outdoors (Daytona for example), so it's easy for TV, they don't have to worry about re-scheduling due to weather.

I think you'll find that CBS is getting PAID to show the Chili Bowl on TV by Lucas Oil, not the Chili Bowl being paid by CBS.

Shop parties all over, BBQ some hogs keg of beer and invite the neighbors over for a shop party and watch the Nationals . The picture quality has to be better than all these live streams that I have paid for in the past. I think it will attract new fans. I'm not going to worry about it though cause I'm going to be there live.

Since you do not know me or my background, can you please explain why my world is too small to understand that HBO is preferred in some way over Turn2?

Is it potential income? Exposure? Production quality? Convienence?

or do you not understand yourself?
