  • Dale Jr. to make announcement Wed. UPDATE 2 looks like to Hendrick #5: could this be the big announcement of where Dale Earnhardt Jr. will go and who he will drive for in 2008 and the future? NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday at 11:00a,/et at his JR Motorsports race shop. [This is NOT open to the public] A full transcript will be released shortly after the news conference.(JR Motorsports PR)
SPEED to televise UPDATE: must be big....SPEED will interrupt regularly scheduled programming Wednesday morning, June 13 at 10:00am/et in anticipation of a live press conference from JR Motorsports about the future plans of Nextel Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. At 11:00am/et, John Roberts will host a special live edition of The SPEED Report, with Bob Dillner on site in Mooresville, N.C. The press conference is expected to last one hour. At 7:00pm/et, SPEED will present a special half-hour edition of The SPEED Report to summarize the day's events.
And XM Radio Sports Nation (XM channel 144) will also air the press conference live.
UPDATE: Officials with Ginn Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing each said their teams were not involved in the news conference while a spokesperson for Richard Childress Racing said the team owner is out of the country [New Zealand] on a hunting trip and that he is not expected to be back in the country tomorrow. A Hendrick Motorsports spokesman had no comment. A call to Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s spokesman was not immediately returned.(SceneDaily.com)
UPDATE 2: ESPN.com's Marty Smith reports: Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Wednesday will announce his intent to drive the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy in 2008, multiple sources with intimate knowledge of negotiations told ESPN.com Tuesday on condition of anonymity. Hendrick Motorsports declined comment Tuesday, and e-mails and calls sent to Earnhardt's representation were not returned. Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, who has handled contract negotiations for her brother, declined to comment on the report. There was some speculation that the wheels are already in motion to plant Earnhardt in the #5 now driven by Kyle Busch before season's end, but Dale Earnhardt, Inc. president Max Siegel, contacted by phone Tuesday, discounted that scenario, saying Earnhardt would remain in the #8 through season's end. Sources said there are indications that Busch may not finish the year in the #5. Busch is under contract with HMS through the end of next season, and Hendrick had been working to sign the 22-year old driver to an extension. Jeff Dickerson, an attorney for Busch, told ESPN.com that "a lot of things may or may not occur. Out of respect for Hendrick Motorsports, we're not really sure what's going on yet. But we're trying. I don't think anything's changed yet. I can not tell you that Kyle is out of the #5 for 2008." Meanwhile, one potential scenario would be Casey Mears moving to the #5 and Earnhardt moving to the #25 currently being driven by Mears [Budweiser sponsored Hendrick and the #25 for many years]. It is unknown whether sponsor Budweiser will follow Earnhardt to Hendrick.(ESPN.com), the Associated Press is reporting similar news/speculation.(6-12-2007)

He's gonna suck there too! I'm lovin it though..... all the Hendrick hater, "die hard" Earnhardt sheep are going to have to root for their Golden Boy in a HENDRICK car???? I'm laughing SO HARD at this whole deal I could wet myself. When he first went from Busch to Cup, he said DEI had THE BEST equipment. If he can't win a championship there, what makes him think he can do it in a ratty ole Hendrick car?

My question is, what are all the mullets going to do with their 8 tattoos and their "fan swag"? Cross it out and put a 5 below it? This is GREAT! To be able to sit back and watch "The Legacy" implode his career is priceless!

Oh yeah, at the Prelude to the Dream race at Eldora last week, when Jeff Gordon was introduced, he was booed. I wonder what driver 90% of the boo'ers cheer for? Was THAT driver there? NO! But guess what? HIS MERCHANDISE TRAILER WAS!! How sad is that??? Not go to a race for CHARITY, but send your trailer?? Fleecing the Earnsheep.........

    Whatever.

It's not HOW fast you go, but how you GO fast.

I'm guessing Dale wouldn't buy any of you're racing jewelery?? If that isn't it you need help, got a lot of pent up anger there.

I was a die hard fan of Big E. When he died i spent the season cheering on the cars of DEI. the next year I chose a rookie in Jimmie Johnson, and now proudly support the entire Hendrick Team. JR will be another good addition to an Elite Team. Championship? Maybe not, but look at the record, Gordon has 4 Championships, Johnson 1, all cars have won this season, it's all there for him to succeed further with Hendrick than he did with DEI.

Maybe not Championships, but he'll win races under the Hendrick banner. Like him or not, he's a good driver, and I don't even cheer him on a weekly basis, if any! LOL

One more thing, I was told from a buddy that went to Eldora that Tony requested his Trailer there, and the proceeds of sales of JR merchandise went to the same Charity that the whole event was there to support. Smart move to have the highest best selling merchandise trailer there in support of such a great cause.

I don't care for Little "E" one bit but I will say I like the way he is reble of sorts. I just think he is way too overrated. Then again it might have to do with a former SFS announcer and radio disc jockey who crambed him down our throats every single race night.

I don't dislike Junior. In fact, I think he's okay. He seems like a good guy. His legions of fans are another story. Can you say "Bubba"?

Hendrick Motorsports is second to none in its operation and Earnhardt will be a welcome addition. Will he get a championship? Who knows-but can you imagine the hype next season if the Chase would come down to Gordon vs. Earnhardt for the crown? It would be huge.

Dave, I was thinking about you this past weekend at the Purcell drag boat races when I heard that announcer you mentioned above working the PA. It made my day.

At least you were well informed about Jr. and the NASCRAP happenings while you were in Purcell watching those boat races.
