I was just watching back the race on DVD (gotta love dvd burners!!) what an awesome race....I know it has been said before, but I had to say it again. anyway, I was wondering if there were any other sites that posted photos for the race other than the Eldora site. I was trying to find a good group shot and no luck anywhere. Even the video crew missed that shot. There was never the good shot....kind of surprising....all I know is that someone has to have one online somewhere. Killer race for a great cause. Thanks Tony!!!!!!
Brent
ps That kind of deal would be perfect for something like the Chili Bowl...need more races like that to see....(the full program...SWEET!!!)

from the video i saw, it looked pretty weak to me. was it as overrated as it looked. how much slower were these guys than say Chub-zilla or Bloomquist or Josh Richardson?
other than the charity aspect of it, why would anyone want to even attend this deal?

Strange Wings,
The Dream (the big race following the Prelude last week) only had (1) car out of 144 in the 17 second bracket. Many of the Prelude drivers ran much faster laps than the big dogs did.
Other than the Charity aspect, no I would not attend, but it did raise a lot of $$$ for a great charity (the Victory Junction Gang Camp).
The race was actually very good (especially compared to some of the races held at Eldora over the years (which is usually a one lane track at the top and just slide job city and hope you get by the guy instead of putting him into the wall).
Just my $.02

A friend in New Bremen (OH) stated she had heard "The Prelude"'s final dollar amount to charity was in the 8 figure area, all to the left of the decimal. Truth or fiction ?

Last year Tony gave them $400,000 @ the track (and they only sold 20,000 tickets @ $20 each).
This year, they had 23,000 people @ $25 each, and an untold # of Pay-per-View viewers @ $24.95 each. I would think 8 figures is not out of the realm of possibility (especially since NEXTEL and Old Spice picked up the production costs associated with HBO, the TV crew worked for FREE, the drivers took no $$ for the race, HBO only got $$ from Old Spice to cover their expenses--probably the sattelite trucks and airtime fee).
My guess is: True (50/50 shot at being right anyway)

Hey strange wings...Gordon, Busch and Carl Edwards were driving the wheels off of the cars...I thought the same thing going into the deal...But they were gassin the chit out of there cars...Went to the dream also and i think the lap times were faster during the Prelude...But diff. conditions I guess...There were a few drivers who werent up on the wheel but for the most part they all impressed me

One comment I found interesting came from Kevin Harvick a couple of days before the Prelude....
Last time Harvick ran the Prelude he wrecked hard enough to require two wreckers to get the car back to the pits. When the SpeedTV reporter asked him if he was racing in this year's Prelude he responded by saying "Tony told me that he has $10,000 invested in my dirt career from last time, so I HAVE to be there!"
In other words, Smoke is taking care of the repair bills too.....and I will go out on a limb and say he chartered a jet big enough to move all the people necessary (drivers plus whoever travels with them and the TV people for sure) from North Carolina to Eldora. I wonder how much actually came out of his own pocket? A great investment that has paid huge dividends for the Victory Junction Gang Camp....but I wonder exactly how much.
8 figures = at least 10 million
23,000 tickets times $25 = $575,000
That leaves $9,425,000 in PPV or 377,000 subscribers to PPV? WoW!!!!

Don't forget to add the 2.00 per seat & 8.00 per box unless that was upped to.
