In maybe somewhat of a surprise to outsiders, Danny Dietrich beat a stacked field to open the Williams Grove season. Brian Montieth was 2nd then Rahmer, Stevie Smith in his new ride, Dewease, Logan Schuhart, Brian Leppo, Rick Lafferty, Danny Holtgraver and Chad Layton rounding out the top 10. The feature was non-stop.

There were 40 cars. Invaders included Canadians Michael Parent and Glenn Styres. Both were DNQ's and non-factors all evening. Styres was credited multiple times for his outstanding recognition as one of the top promoters in the racing business. Tim Shaffer was also in town, he finished 12th in the feature. Western PA product Danny Holtgraver was solid all night as usual and came home in 9th.

Danny Dietrich continues to impress and build on a remarkable year last year.

Brian Monteith had the quickest car tonight and came from 7th in a non-stop feature and threw a slider on Dietrich in the final corner but Dietrich crossed back underneath for the victory.

One of the most anticipated new teams across the nation debuted tonight, the Chris Luck/Chad Clemons 19. Stevie Smith won his heat from the pole and started 4th in the feature and was as high as 2nd before crossing the line a solid 4th.

Lance Dewease returned from a nasty back injury last season and looked good as new running solidly in the top 5.

Daryn Pittman battled a tough heat race pill draw and ended up finishing 11th in the feature.

Greg Hodnett was in a redraw position in his heat race and lost the motor. He scratched for the night. Mike Erdley had a tire go down while running the final transfer spot in of 1 of the B Mains, resulting in a DNQ. Aaron Ott and Justin Henderson both had heat race troubles that ulitmatlely led to DNQ's as well.

Fresh off his first victory with his new team last week, Brian Leppo looked strong again finishing 7th. Since the night races have begun, things have turned for the better for the Keen 17 team.

Pat Cannon won the 358 which is not surprising to anyone.

It was good to get the season underway with an outstanding field of cars like that. Williams Grove returns next week and a similar field of cars should be expected, minus a few here and there. Lincoln and Port Royal both have 410's on the program Saturday night. Most of the "big name" drivers have headed to Port Royal because they favor Port's draw system as compared to Lincoln's handicap system.

Did 420 fail to notify the 358 contingency that they were running last night...? :-/

Opinions may vary...

DD has been impressive the races I have seen him this season. It looks like he has at least a decent chance of unseating Montieth for the title at Lincoln.

That field was top notch. I can remember just a few years ago when even the WG openers and the early season Friday night shows were only drawing 27-28 cars.

I hope this isn't the case, but with the big name teams going to Port on Saturday nights, I have to wonder if Lincoln will look at drawing weekly for starting spots next year. I would hate to see that happen, but that seems to be the way things are headed in central PA. I honestly never thought I would ever see Rahmer leave Lincoln in favor of a regular show at Port.

Wouldn't be the first time Fred left Lincoln to run another track.

I know, but I can't really remember him skipping Lincoln to go run a regular show at Port very often/ever. When he has skipped Lincoln in the past, it has almost always been to run a big money show somewhere or to race with the Outlaws.

There was an entire season he skipped Lincoln to run Selinsgrove.

I am not really arguing the point, just having an interesting debate. But I don't think Rahmer did that after he started running Lincoln weekly. I know Rahmer ran SG weekly in Bud Lawrence's car when he first moved out to central PA racing from Big Diamond/Grandview/Penn National. Once Rahmer got in Bob Stewart's car, though, I am pretty sure he always ran Lincoln weekly through the Hamilton/Harz/Kline days. Smile

I guess the Big names will be skipping the Grove as well in another week except for TT shows. The Grove is using the same method as Lincoln.

The weekly show at the grove is no joke. You had better bring the A game if you want a good piece of the purse. Thats all that needs to be said.

Clinton County didn't open yet.

They won't skip it, but they'll pay the same penalty when they return from running Eldora/Knoxville.

I thought you were a fan of the little guys? Well, at least until the Outlaws are in town. wink

a 410 show...40 cars and awsome crowd in a bad economy

Lets open up the rule book even more and really see something interesting. We don't have to deball the cars to keep the sport healthy. Just the opposite in fact.
