Getting word that we'll have at least one more date and possibly 2 more to add in the central Arkansas area on the 24th and/or 25th!
If that happens, we'll officially have us a Modified Speedweek right here in the midsouth! You may want to get that vacation arranged.
Stay tuned....

So much for my 99%! The 1% wins!
Still have 4 great races at 4 great tracks!
Maybe Speedweek will happen next year for the Southern Series around July 21-28, 2008. Really depends on how well the Thursday and Sunday shows do this year.

No, probably not. For the first two, maybe Little Rock or Beebe?
The second two, Monroe, Ruston or Minden but if you're driving back to Oklahoma right after Boothill might as well stay in Shreveport or Marshall, Jefferson or Atlanta in Texas depending on you're route hom on Sunday night. Chatham is about 2 hours from Shreveport.

This past weekend it was Brandon Smith-Jared Landers, 1-2 again at Batesville Speedway with Kevin Salter third. Kevin might be getting overlooked here. Jeff Taylor won the MSRA Late Model show. Wonder if youngster Tyson Franks who had a heat win and a top five this week might surprise some folks next Thursday night!
Also, congrats to Brian Parker who won the Coca-Cola Nationals Tim Phillips Memorial race at North Central Arkansas Speedway worth $3000 and to Texas Motor Speedway Pro-Cuts Texas World champ Johnny Virden on advancing his way through the field with his GRT for a third place finish. Maybe Brian will come over and try for another $3 Grand at Batesville! Eddie Martin had his Big Chief rolling through the field too but a flat sent him to the back. He rallied back for an eighth. Steve Holzkamper was looking for his second nationals win in a row and his TRE may have been the car to beat but he broke while leading half-way through the race. Steve comes into Batesville 2nd in USMTS Southern Series points.

Gas prices seemed to have leveled again. We got to $3.00 a gallon for regular unleaded back in June. Then it dropped as low as 2.63 in the Shreveport area for what seemed like a day! Went back up to around 2.87, 2.89 and since then has fallen and leveled around 2.75 to 2.77.
This morning at the Pilot truck stop at I-20 exit 33 east of Shreveport-Bossier, unleaded regular was 2.72 and diesel was 2.76.
Grandstand prices for Monticello on Friday night, July 27th:
Grandstand: Adults $15 Seniors $10 Kids 6-12: $5 Under 6: Free
Pit Passes: Adult: $30 Kids 6-12: $15 (with adult)
Grandstand admission at Fast Trax on Sat, 7-28!
Adult - $15 Seniors - $10 Kids 6-12 - $5 Under 6 - Free! Any active duty military with ID - FREE! Family Pass (Max 2 adults & 4 Kids) - $35 Pit Pass - $30
Granstand prices for Boothill on Sunday, July 29th
Adult: $12 Kids - 6-12: $5 Under 6: Free Cooler charge: $5
Pit Pass: $30
I don't have that info for Batesville yet. Working on it.

The case for getting a USMTS license...
Well the first reason I'd get one is for more savings & more $$$.
If you plan on running 3 or more USMTS races you can easily earn more than your money back and you could even make money because of the license by running just one race! Don't forget, there are more USMTS Southern Series races in 2007 besides these 4 coming up. They will have shows in Oklahoma and Texas in September, October and November.
A USMTS Southern Series license costs $100, the same as any of their region's license cost up north. A national license cost $300 and is good for any region and the Southern Series too. In order to earn points in any of the regions or series you must either have a license for that region or a national license. Since we are about to start The Hunt for the national title in about 3 weeks, I figure who ever was getting the national license in 2007 has already done so, so let's just figure up what the Southern Series license will do for you for now although a national one may have still some advantages in 2007 and for sure will have some advantages for southerners in 2008 so keep that in mind for next year!
Now whether you have a license or not, the win amount doesn't change. It still pays whatever is advertised to win (usually $2 or $3000) for licensed or unlicensed but 2nd in most races pays $1500 to a licensed racer and $1200 to an unlicensed racer. It pays $200 to start the average USMTS feature to anyone but if you have a license, it pays $250 to start. Miss the A? A licensed driver gets $75 "tow money" back from their entry fee while a non-licensed one gets $60.
Then you can save a little on entry fees too. All late entries cost $100 whether you are licensed or not. But an early entry -- either 5 days before the race or in the case of a next day show, up to 30 minutes after a feature ends, it costs a licensed driver just $80 to enter while a non-licensed driver pays $90 in that situation. On the next day entry deal, here's an example of how Todd normally does it: At the Batesville driver's meeting on Thursday night, he'll tell you that you can enter Friday night's Monticello USMTS race any time up to 30 minutes after the Batesville USMTS feature ends. At Monticello, he'll do the same for Saturday's Fast Trax show, etc., etc. So if you have a good run at Batesville and the weather's looking good at Monticello go ahead and enter Monticello's race after the feature and you save $20 there.
So enter just 3 of the remaining Southern Series races but buy a license first, all you have to do is make one A out of the 3 and you can have more than your $100 back already. Making that one A gets you 50 extra dollars back, the other two gets you another $30 in tow money and by entering each event early with a license, you save another $30 at least. Or if you can't win the race at least finish second and triple back the cost of that license in just one race! ($1500 vs $1200)
There ya go, clear as mud, right? If so, you can trust me on this one. If you are a serious Modified racer in these parts, go ahead and get the license. I figure with the cost of everything else (like fuel! ), every little bit helps!

Let the road trip begin!
Start out with high of 88 and only a 20% chance of rain at Batesville Thursday night. Just 2 classes -- Mods & Late Models running there.
Monticello has the same 20% for Friday with a high of 90. They have 5 classes running but the USMTS heats will be first and they will run the second feature of the night. Same order at Fast Trax. Boothill just 3 classes on Sunday.
