I had heard once again the Florida Police / Highway patrol were ticketing

semi tractors used to pull large race rigs. Its common practice to have a

truck tractor be either a DOT or an RV unit. In Michigan we only have

to add a Toliet/Potty, Oven and Sink. Than we got our RV license. I

was told that is not enough in Florida as they look at GVW as well. You

would think that a 40' Diesel pusher would actually be heavier than a race

tractor and trailer.

So the question is who knows who got ticketed in Florida when they

took their Big Rigs as RV's.

Thanks Don Wilshe

I'd say since all of the Outlaw Teams are always looking for a crew guy with a valid CDL that they are not registering their rigs as RV's.

Each State has their own rules/regulations. I can recall seeing many a semi (over the road truckers, not someone trying to be an RV) with multiple license plates in the Midwest as laws varied from state to state.

With the CDL now being nationwide, I am surprised that Semi's have not been regulated to be a NATIONAL License Plate instead of state by state.

Using GVW makes sense to me as far as how to decide what is an RV and what isn't. Just because you add a Toilet, Oven and Sink to a semi doesn't make it an RV, it's still a semi, it now just has a Toilet, Oven and Sink.

If every state allowed adding these items as the criteria for making a semi and RV, every single semi going up and down the road would have these three items in them (they're cheaper to register, and most importantly, they don't have restrictions on how long you can drive them without stopping (log books for those unfamiliar) by law.

There will be no NATIONAL standard as long as the states can keep nickeling and diming everybody they can with their very own rules.

According to the lady that gives the test in Findlay, Ohio it will be sometime in the future. She said something to the effect about it being Federal & I ask the question if everything is Federal why are all the states different.
