minthess I think you miss the point. Jason Johnson will win with a Chevy, Ford or Mopar it doesnt matter he is that good of driver. It has to do with the man in the cockpit a lot more than the motor under the hood!

Any driver will run any motor....especially if it is given to them. Flavor of the day so to speak.

I'm not sure this is exactly what they had in mind when they started the 360 class. It's now went just a little over the top in my opinion..http://www.roushyates.com/EnginePrograms/SprintCar/360.aspx

I'm always baffled when I read this directly from the ASCS rule book, especially the first sentence:

"Spec Heads: Brodix heads part # 27-211, #27223, and #27-222 with ASCS stamp may not have any performance-enhancing alterations in any way. Intake opening no larger than original opening, the only exception being, inlet opening may be ground or polished 3/4 inches or no further into port than the closest edge of the closest letter of the ASCS logo. During this polishing the left side of the letter "A" is sometimes inadvertently brushed with polish wheel. This is permissible as long as letter is still intact. During polishing of inlet port sometimes polish marks may go slightly further than the 3/4 inch. Intake port at no time may exceed 215 cubic centimeters.

Intake port polishing will be allowed no more than 1 1/2 inches below the bottom of the original seat ring on the back side of the bowl area and no more than 1 inch on the short side. Polishing will be allowed in the combustion chamber area to avoid hot spot chaffing. Polishing will be allowed in exhaust ports as long as the original "ASCS" logo is not affected or port shape is not altered substantially.

Absolutely no intake or exhaust port relocation, raising, enlargement or reshaping of any type. Valve angle and placement may not be altered in any way on the ASCS spec head or on any other head. ASCS checking fixtures to check the above specifications and dimensions will be used by sanctioned ASCS tracks."

Then I read about heads specially prepped by Roush-Yates, or Weld-Tech, or Ron's Porting, or any other big name engine builder. I can do the polishing stated above in my garage at home. What are all these guys doing that anyone with a die grinder, some polishing tools and the ability to read the rules can't and how can anything but polishing be legal??

Just curious.

Ricky will need a part time job to keep up with the expense of keeping that Ford on the track.

Same reason 305`s are popping up all over the place-----cant afford the motors....thanks Roushyates! $40,000 motors should have the car counts down to 22 just like the 410`s are right now.

You like almost everyone else are forgetting all the extra money the car will be winning because of the superior engine. No one thinks about all the extra t-shrit sales revenue because of the Ford oval as well.

wY DID ASCS ALLOW ANY PORTING AT ALL, WHAT WAS THE REASON THEY ALLOWED PORTING UP TO THE ASCS LETTERS. WHAT IS EASON THEY ALLOW TITANIUM ON ENGINE AND CAR. IT CAN COST $2000 TO $3000 JUST FOR TIT PARTS ON CHASSIS AND MOTOR. I WOULD GUESS SOME BIG TIME 360 TEAMS JUST HAD TO HAVE THEM.

What is the deal with all of your posts about how great the Fords are? I am a huge Ford fan, it is all that I own in my street cars, but they are not the best thing on the track. Fact is that they cost too much and they are finicky. If they were the best everyone would be running them. But last I looked they were a very small fish in a rather big pond. I just don't get it.

Motors are just an air pump/they don,t know who they are. If you can't build your own motors maybe you should hang it up. I built my ascs ford ford for about 13.000 thou. A lot of tracks it doesn"t matter if you have 730 hp. or 500 hp. the major builders have to pay for developemental cost along the way thats why they cost so much. Also they charge that much cause most people don"t take the time to build there own.

I'm no ASCS fan. Heck I don't even like all the WoO rules. An ASCS engine still selling for 40k is a big sign that all these great cost saving rules everyone loves to talk about only complicates and waters everything down. If making things affordable was the answer there would be thousands of people at your local go cart track instead of a couple hundred. One thing the ASCS folks understand though is that there are a bunch of fans that aint gonna come and buy a ticket if there is nothin but a bunch of chevs.

It doesn't matter what any rule book says, racers ALWAYS WANT MORE HORSEPOWER! If organizations would limit rear tire size (height and width) and cut down the size of the wings by 10%, wouldn't it put more emphasis on the driver and wouldn't it slow down the cost of motor development and rebuilds?
