excellant advice. another area of concern from my experience is I used a "company" truck to haul karts and then later racecars to the races and then parked the vehicle in the pit areas, I wonder how you explain to your employers insurance that their vehicle was damaged at a racetrack in the pit area, or how does hauling a personal race vehicle to a race track become our liability? Any thoughts?

Makes a fellow yearn for the good old days, 1/2 ton pick-up with a tandem open trailer... Thanks Guys, Dan

Humper has it right...Also, air brakes = CDL

Just because you have air brakes doesn't mean you need a CDL.. Box trucks have air brakes and if they fall under 26001 pounds its not required..

Interesting topic for discussion, I too have questioned some grey areas for registration of a toterhome RV type vehical for pulling the heap down the read, First off I called the State highway patrol office, the clerk was confussed at my questions so she forworded me to a officer on duty, (quickley i grew to the impression two of the officers where jamn dounuts down thier throats and guzzeling coffee, when they replied to me "so your Mr race car driver and I pull you over" needless to say this conversation quickly drew pointless, I was then tipped to contact the Fed DOT to my amazement the gal i spoke with was very pleasent and helpfull to find the exact purpose and requirements I would have to meet, even down to "freinds" sponsoring my car there was sections of a artical that described any type vehical pulling a personal trailer can be utilized as a RV type vehical , previously I heard anything from I need a overhead bunk? ,a single axle? ,bathroom? no airbrakes?, "Not for hire" labels ect, none of this was true to my understanding if falling under the section and artical she supplied me with , I dont remember the specifics I would have to dig the papers out again that I wrote them on , the "not for hire" label is a loophole to get a collision/damage type event off your back about it being a commercial vehical, and landing under a buisness type Insurance ring, still worthy of display in my opinion, just to keep insurace companys looking for a excuse for liability, regardless of parties involved, maybe not for your insurance, but , for the sprinkler system, your duals just ran over .displaying companies and sponsors on your trailer I never recieved a answer on, my argument is, if I pull a "Bayliner" boat with my 1974 "Isuzu", I run a red light and put tracks over grandmas new "Caddy" with my boat trailer , does that mean "Bayliner" is the company at fault or worthy of lawsuit? afterall It said "Bayliner" in big bold letters on the boat? I asked Barney Fife this question after the initial phonecall to the highway dept and he didnt have a good answer for me , so thus the conversation was over,

I strongly believe a call to the Fed DOT is the best place to start looking for your answers , I would only assume the rig will be crossing several state lines, and would be best presented as tho. JM2c
