Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania reduces their gate admission for teens aged 13 to 18 to one half the price for an Adult, from $10 to $5. Great news, at last someone finally realizes that 13 year olds are not Adults and are the future of our great sport! More tracks need to follow this lead, coming from the most successful hot bed for sprint cars in the world. Promoters, especially in Oklahoma and Texas, are you listening?

This is a really good idea. Although the kids are not the deciding factor today, they will be tomorrow. Decisions like this tend to look on tracks that want to grow the sport for all of us.

Thats great, but what are they at 13? Adults? Do these 13 year olds have jobs? Or does a real ADULT have to pay their way in?

Should always be half price for those 13-18, at least for your weekly show.

Salute to what Port Royal has done! I have always believed that 15 and under need to be free or reduced admission. Someone (who will pay for a ticket) has to drive them to the track.
With admission, entertainment value, etc. we MUST start promoting to younger fans. I'm working on a blog, but believe the sprint car racing is uniquely poised to bring younger fans into the sport.
Glad to see that Port Royal has made this move.

Try this--- 5.00 admission and that gets you a free hot dog and a soda.

$9.00 admission for all ages for all events at 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas each race night. That includes most NCRA shows and other "special events."

I should have included Kansas with my list of Promoters that should consider reduced rates to teens. C. Ray is one of those that needs to pay attention. A 13 year old is not an Adult and should not be required to pay the same. Even at a flat $9 a head, a family, Mom Dad and two teens will cost $36. At a minimum offer a family package of say, $25. The future depends of these teens, don't price them out by greed.

I am not calling you out but have you even seen what 81 looks like as far as attendance at that place? It is wall to wall people. If you get there late then you will not have a seat.

Kids under 16 should 1/2 price and kids under 12 should always be free with adult.. Most kids 16 and under don't have a income, treat the parents to some kind of a break, and the promoters may keep the kids as fans when the reach the age when they go to work.

Have you been to a movie lately? Concessions will kill you at a movie. Nothing better than being at a racetrack. I'd gladly give my kids 10-15 to spend at the track every week during the summer . Always adults around and never really seems to ever hear of kids getting into trouble at a good ole American dirt track on a Friday or Sat night. Please all support your local race track this season.

It's ok to call me out. No I haven't been to 81 in quite a few years. The last few times, about 7 or 8 years ago, they were not drawing very large crowds. My hat is off to C. Ray if he can charge full price to teens and still fill the stands. The one factor that 81 has over a lot of other tracks is longevity and stability. The locals are creatures of habit, that have been going to the races there for years and that connection has fueled continued interest. Unfortunitly, the Tulsa and Ok City areas have not had that same stability for many years. True, SFS closed just two years ago but the promoter (Lanny) was less than effective and attendance declined. When tracks are in a building or rebuilding phase, they need to do whatever it takes to draw new support. Reduced admissions to teens is just one of those tools.

Not so much creature of habit on those locals there cheroger,we had a choice several years ago to go to Cowtown or 81with both having Big Sprint shows on the same weekend and Cowtown price was $15-$20 to get in and 81 was $9 to get in and wound up seeing a good show that night at 81 and they had just as many or more cars around 35+ at 81 that night , we went north out of OKC to 81 on the reason of price.
Flat rate deal not that bad to me as I see it, would rather pay say $9 each for 2 adults and 2 kids than pay $15 each for the adults and a reduced rate of $5 each for the kids. That $4 savings would help towards a big tub of popcorn at the concession stand.

Oakshade in the upper N.W. corner of Ohio is 12.00 anytime eachtime & everytime no matter what the race. The Hell Tour finishes out up there & is only 12.00 bucks, A late Model Fans dream. Never seen how much they charge for kids though.

Here is an excerpt from an interview I did with C Ray in June of 2010..........
Excluding a full schedule of
“regular” races on most tracks slate, they charge different amounts
for
their shows. Hall has an interesting approach to ticket and pit pass
pricing that I haven’t seen before. Any show Hall puts on whether it
is
an NCRA sprint, late model or modified event, or even a local points
program, Hall charges the same price for anything! The tracks
General admission is $9 and pit passes are only $20! And he has been
doing this for three years! When asked how he decided on this unique
pricing approach, Hall answered; “People need to know what they are
going to pay before they leave the house. If they get here (race
track)
and they have to dip into their wallet twice, then it’s too much.”
Hall
added, “When you go to the movies, their prices is always the same
(night showings), when you got to the baseball game, the prices are
the
same. They don’t change their prices and nor do I”.
Hall is a firm believer that
concession stand service is a key to success. He pointed out the fact
he
has a $5 combo (burger / fries / drink). Hall’s position is that
people
will remember the value and will return to the races when they are
looking for a night out of the house. He also knows that they won’t
always eat the same thing and therefore will select other items on the
menu. Then there is C. Ray’s MUST Do. “You MUST take
credit and debit cards at the concession stand” said Hall. “You can
move
product if you accept what the people are willing to pay with. I
learned
that from the years of selling t-shirts.”

A unique approach indead. I was unaware of 81's pricing policy until now. So, maybe other promoters should pay attention to C. Ray? How can you question his policies when you see the grandstands full every week?

One of the Indiana tracks, I forgot which one, is taking Credit/Debit cards at the gate to get in.
