The 2010 National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Adam Wilt won the annual Icebreaker 30 at Lincoln this afternoon. Brent Marks was 2nd then Kevin Nouse in his new ride, Brian Monteith and Doug Esh.
There were 28 cars. Cody Darrah and Andre Layfield of West Virginia were the only invaders. Darrah was hooked up to the wrecker twice and was scored 24th in the feature. Layfield transfered to the feature through atrition and was didn't complete a lap.
Temperatures were low but the real kicker was the wind. Winds were listed up to 40mph and it may have had an effect on the drivers as many of them lost it going into turn 1. Darrah lost part of a tire in an accident and it flew out of the speedway over the grandstand and into the forest behind the houses.
Brian Leppo debuted in the Keen 17 and was solid in his heat winning it from the pole. But that was the end of his success. He started 4th and spun going into turn 1. He never really made a charge forward from the rear and ended up being lapped. Eddy Rice debuted in the Wintermeyer 3w but ended up on his lid in the first corner, first lap. Kevin Nouse debuted in the Dietz 14 and was solid all night, leading 7 laps before crossing the line 3rd.
It was good to see Chad Criswell back after suffering a nasty injury last year.
Obviously with the starting time and the unfavorable conditions, the track wasn't amazing but Montieth was able to charge from 13th to 5th and Alan Krimes came from 20th to 6th.
It was good to get racing season underway. Next week it's the same show Lincoln @ 2pm. All of the big hitters will be back, so it should be a stacked field.
Notable drivers missing:
- Greg Hodnett - Bubba
- Fred Rahmer - Bubba
- Logan Schuhart - Bubba
- Mark Smith - Bubba
- Aaron Ott - Bubba
- Daryn Pittman - Bubba
- Sam Hafertepe - Bubba
- Danny Lasoski - Bubba
- Lance Dewease - Injury
- Justin Henderson
- Chad Layton
- Brad McCelland

Just curious what was the last year they actually got a show done in February? Just amazing. The crowd there is just awesome and imagine the promoter got to put a few dollars in the bank account for the upcoming season. As I always say better to put the race on the calendar and cancel early then to have nothing scheduled and get a day you could have raced.

It was (other than the wind) a decent day. The sun shining kept it bearable. Also once they fired the engines, it felt like spring. The crowd was GREAT, the racing was good, welcome to the 2012 racing season. My guy didn't have a great start, but that's racin. Congrats to Wilt, he had em covered.

While I have many thoughts reguarding this, I'll just stick to a few...
Thanks to the Fabulous for putting on as an efficient show as possible...
Thanks to the Rahmer fans in my section for staying home...The extra leg room was welcomed...
Thanks to my boss for giving me a half day so I could partake in the festivities that is Opening Day...
Thank the Good Lord that Hagerstown is just a few weeks away because, if I had to watch this form of entertainment on a weekly basis, I'd find a new hobby...
Thanks in advance to the guy who breaks the Photogoobers "coke bottle camera lense" because, I'm, in no way shape or form, a fan of that "creative interpretation...
Final thought, did Smitty51 git stuck cornholin with the fellers in the east lot, cause I did not see hide nor hair of him...? :
Opinions may vary...

You said "thank the good lord that Hagerstown is just a few weeks away". Not a fan of winged sprints I take it? Then quit complaining and go watch your awesome fendered cars.

I'm surprised you even stayed for the main with 4 of the top 5 being XXX ... Wilt (winner), Marks (2nd), Monteith (4th), Esh (5th). Don't you have to leave the track when the imports kicks your ass?
