Rico Abreu Joins Keith Kunz Motorsports in 2012

PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of an impressive 2011 rookie campaign driving 360 and 410 winged sprint cars, Rico Abreu is excited to announce he will be joining Keith Kunz Motorsports and compete in the USAC National Midget tour in 2012.

The St. Helena, California product recently competed in the Kunz camp at the 2012 Chili Bowl and did not disappoint on lookers.

Abreu tallied a seventh place finish on his qualifying night before winning a “B” on Saturday and transferring into the 55-lap feature event where he tallied a 21st place finish.

“I’m really excited to get the chance to compete at the National level in 2012,” said an excited Abreu.

The Keith Kunz team will feature Abreu, and reigning USAC Drivers Champion/USAC Midget Champion Bryan Clauson.

“Teaming with BC will be really beneficial,” explained Abreu. “He’s been strong in anything he has hopped in the last few years, so it will nice to have someone else to watch and talk to.”

Abreu will have a busy 2012 as he still plans to pilot his Abreu Vineyards/Kaeding Performance No.89 sprinter out west when his schedule permits.

“The USAC Schedule is busy, but I’m excited to race with my Kaeding team also,” said Abreu. “We had a really good trip down under and I’m hoping to pick up our first win this season.”

Overall Rico’s schedule is shaping up to be an aggressive and busy one, that will have the youngster making stops all over the country so he can continue to grow as a driver and show his skills to a variety of audiences.

“As a driver it’s going to be a great experience to see some new venues and drive different types of cars this year,” continued Abreu. “I’m looking forward to working with Keith Kunz, Pete, and Kris, who are three very focused, and knowledgeable individuals.”

ON TAP: Rico and his Abreu Vineyards/Kaeding Performance team will open the Sprint Car Season with the World of Outlaws on March 8th in Las Vegas. See the first two month of Abreu’s season below.

It is, and I can't ever remember a little person in a sprint car, but I think there might have been one many years ago in a Midget. Had some friends at the Chilli Bowl who said he could flat get it, and were very impressed with him. There is no question that his family has $$ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abreu_Vineyards, but we'll just have to wait and see what this kid can do with Kunz. He's been racing (like a lot of kids today) for years already, and being hooked up with Kaeding as well is a big +.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Who cares what he is or where he came, it's a new team in sprint car racing, shouldn't we be relishing this fact?

I wish him well and hope I can get to see him and USAC race this year. AS well as the All Stars, WoO, NRA, and weekly regulars of OH.

I only wish one of my favorite tracks Atomic/KC Raceway was open to enjoy it.

If anyone wanted to have some fun racing, and make a million dollars, provided he started with 2 million, would lease or purchase the track an open it back up. The weekly competition between KC and Skyline and their point fund was a great idea. Much like the point fund split between Attica & Fremont.

Big deal, you arent the only one that knows. So what you think you and your person knows, it's no secret. Obviously, your talent hasnt got you anywhere and your so called source too. Since we know who you are who is the other person? I think we can figure him out too. You both have to bash others to feel good about yourself. And your other person has you do all the bashing of drivers that drive for Keith Kunz whether they pay or not? So what if he's paying? I would say they are making a smart move investing in the best team out there. The kid has talent.

Since you and the other person know so much, is Clauson paying too? He's driving for Kunz this year. I heard Clauson is bring lots of money to Kunz. He paying Kunz so a nascar team will recognize him once again. haaaa haaaa haaaa Please give me you inside info on Clauson since you and the other person knows so much.

Rico paying for the ride has been no secret, starting with the Chili Bowl. Like its been mentioned, he has good talent and its a worthy investment by his family. He requires crafted cars, so its not like he can just jump in anyone's cars that easily. Makes sense for him to do it this way. It will be interesting to watch him progress throughout the season. I have heard BC is showing up with his drivers bag only, not paying a dime for the ride. Why should he? He has his own team he can race for if he wants to, which will be fielding cars with other drivers as well.

i really get a laugh out of the people who start saying that the only reason a rico or larson is doing good or has had success is because they are paying for a good ride or someone is putting up the money for a good ride.

some of those people are the same ones who are slamming danica for not being able to do anything even with being provided with the best rides.

so let me see, rico and larson and danica all have the good fortune of having some money behind them to put them in good rides. we then have people saying the reason larson and rico are doing so well is because of the money behind them, but with all the money in the world behind her, danica is a mid pack runner.

one thing larson and rico and danice all have in common is the fact that it isn't the money that is the basis for their performance.

the theory of money buying driving performance just doesn't play.

Everyone in racing has money behind them . Its 2012 now . Its not to often you see someome start out in a low dollar car and work there way up like you use to back in the day. You can buy everything you need right off the shelf and look like a super star.

if buying everything off the shelf makes you a super star, how come everyone didn't win 21 main events last year?

money doesn't buy talent.

well i guess it does if you pay it to drive your car.

That's all you got left to hang your spite on huh? LOL, you are a loser. He still won more main events than anyone else, including those he raced against in USAC, and you cant change that. Thanks for playing though, douche bag troll.

Larson didn't need to win a championship. Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates seems to be just fine without Larson winning a championship. Who got signed with a championship since you think that is so important to win a championship? I would take what EGR is giving Larson over a championship.
