From Louis Brewster's column in the LA Daily News. In our haste last week in reporting the demise of Irwindale Speedway, we neglected to mention Ventura Raceway still is in operation.
"It's in Ventura. Right next to the beach," Mike Trottochau wrote. "When it's 112 degrees in L.A., it's a beautiful 75 at the racetrack. And there's great racing, too. Twenty 1,400-pound, 650-horsepower open-wheel sprint cars will get your attention, especially since it's about the only game in town."
Perris Auto Speedway opens its 17th season Saturday with the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars Sokola Shootout, PAS Senior Sprints and the California Lightning Sprint Cars.
"We are very optimistic that 2012 is going to be a very good year," promoter Don Kazarian said. "Several young drivers are jumping into the series and USAC made sure there are no conflicts between the CRA and West Coast 360 Series as there have been in the past. The amount of teams we have seen on the track at practice has been a very pleasant surprise."
Also a surprise is the purse increase, with winners getting $2,500. Cal Poly Pomona engineering graduate Mike Spencer leads the USAC/CRA portion of the show, beginning his drive for a fifth consecutive title.

I know you don't get to see it all the time Dave, but Louie features The PAS on a regular basis (almost weekly in the season) in the San Bernardino Sun, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin etc. He is like the last of the Mohicans when it comes to local papers who have a writer for motorsports. He is a great guy and has taken great care of us for 17-years now.
