Jackson Speedway officially up for sale Bidding authorized at Tuesday’s meeting
by RYAN BRINKS Jackson County Pilot News EditorThe Jackson Speedway was officially put up for sale on Tuesday when the Jackson County Board of Commissioners authorized notices to bidders.A subcommittee of the board and the Jackson County Fair Board had delineated boundaries for what would be sold, and following a potential tweaking of one boundary line, buyers will now be sought through advertisement in the local newspaper and in trade publications regionally and possibly nationally.
Up for bid is approximately 36 acres of the 47-acre Jackson County Fairgrounds, from 789th Street on the north to the go-kart track on the south, not including the horse barn and arena, and from the fence outside turns three and four on the west to the eastern property line.

How long does the bidding process take? Can a deal be done by race season?

I suppose it could be done that fast, but seems unlikely. Would think it would take a month or so to advertise. Unless Big Game is the only interested party, seems like another month or two to receive bids and evaluate them. Probably another month for the lawyers to get all the documentation competed and do the closing. That takes us to sometime in June.
That said, I'm guessing that the county and Big Game already have a nearly completed deal and that no one else will be seriously interested. They'll close by May 1 and upgrades will begin. (I hope)

I am still not sure them buying the track is a good thing? Once the fairgrounds sells it, then they don't control if and when the track runs. Plus, I believe it removes the fairground noise exemption law, which means that any noise complaints could cause a lot of trouble.
