I heard the rumors about Lucas Oil becoming the track's title sponsor. Could this reported activity be part of the switchover rather than a shutdown? I guess time will tell.

Only two tracks should be considered: Perris Auto Speedway or Thunderbowl in Tulare

Hearing from local racers and others workers from the speedway that the Irwindale Speedway could have new owners soon. Hearing that Lucas Oil have been in talks to buy the Irwindale Speedway. We're hearing that Lucas is planing on bring dirt to the speedway....

One speedway worker, that wants to remain nameless, says that Lucas Oil plans to reopen the track for the 2012 season after they turn the 1/3 mile track into a dirt track, keeping the 1/2 mile track as is. The plan is to run dirt and stock car races every weekend at the speedway and be able to remove the dirt from the track for drift races. We are also told that the new owners will be upgrading the stands and garage area. We know that King Taco was told if they have anything at the track they want, that it has to be gone by monday morning. We know that there was a paper shreading truck outside the office eating paper on Friday Morning and that Bob DeFazio was cleaning out his office & that Jim Williams (the tracks owner) walked away & washed his hands of the track 2 weeks ago. Also hearing that the track will be locked down Monday morning. Again, this is NOT official, this is just what we are hearing. Irwindale Speedway will be making a "Big Announcement" tomorrow. The track, built in an industrial east of Los Angeles, hosted major events like the Turkey Night Grand Prix for USAC midgets, and the Toyota Showdown for NASCAR late model drivers. The 6,500-seat track, built next to an already-existing eighth-mile drag strip, was state of the art, with top-quality lighting that not only was expected to attract fans and major racing events, but movie and television work, and indeed, Irwindale saw its share of show business, especially TV commercials.

Forget PAS, Turkey Night needs to be at a short track. Return to Oildale!

I'd rather see turkey night at irwindale on DIRT with sprints midgets and Lucas oil late models and everything else that goes with it.every Saturday night.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Well I guess the timing could not be better for Kern County's New paved track to kick back into gear!! Work began last week on the 1/2 paved track. They claim to be having the track ready by Oct for a race or two this yr in 2012 and a full season starting 2013.

Sorry to see another track close its doors as we need to support all the track we have left!!!

May not be the end after all... check out the latest post on our blog. We've chatted with a few folks about the speedway, and posted an intriguing statement from Jim Liaw of Formula DIRT

ok lets say it sells and from rumors it will be a dirt track. that does not end the chances of paved racing in so cal. i know it all takes money and at this time the ppl with the know how . but the Orange show is sitting idle and bakersfield is well on there way to racing . and as nice as Irwindale is, I cant imagine it will not have race cars on it soon .
