I was there standing on a hauler when I saw this accident. Klabunde was trying to avoid someone in front him I believe and the other car just kept comin down the track and klabunde was goin to too fast to do anything else and drove into the pits damn near full speed and hit a barrier and flipped over top quite a few people in the pits...could not believe noone was hurt...it was the most horrific looking crash I have ever seen and won't ever forget it...not sure if it was Joe orth or not but some photographer kept taking photos while klabunde was flipping right over top him...amazing..

Maybe Todd Hoffman's wife escaping on the right. I know her and her daughters were in the area.

Thanks for the link! Some of the best accident action shots ever! I would have needed a complete change of everything below the waist if it had been me.
Since it hasn't been said otherwise, I assume the driver was not seriously injured. Says volumes for the safety equipment!

I was standing about 30 feet away - on the other side of the pit entrance - from the accident.
Klabunde's car made contact with another going down the backstretch and lost its steering, making him just a passenger rather than a driver. A group of people were standing on a dirt mound that was fronted by Jersey barriers, which the car slammed into. Seconds before the impact, the spectators began running away from the oncoming car. The car smashed into the barrier and then flew over the fleeing crowd, actually landing in front of them, which is why Todd's wife appears to be running towards the wreck. As I watched the entire scene unfold, I really thought that the people were running to their doom, as it appeared that they were running towards the spot where the car would land. Fortunately, it cleared them all and landed in front of them. Equally amazing was the fact that the driver was able to walk away from the incident. And I can't believe that Joe Orth, who was in the midst of it all, had the composure to shoot photos.
I've been to thousands of races and that has to be one of the scariest situations I've ever seen.
