ECONOMY FORCES PRICE CHANGES AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!

(Perris, CA, January 23, 2012) Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian has announced that due to the current economy, there will be some price changes when the Riverside County Clay oval opens it's 17th season in February.

In recent weeks the diminished economy has cost Southern California two racing facilities. Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, the oldest track in the state which had operated
continuously since the 1940s, and Victorville Raceway Park. Kazarian is bound and determined not to late the same fate befall The PAS and regrettably some increases have to be
instituted.

"The ticket and pit pass increases this year is primarily driven by historical low sponsorship along with USAC's inability to subsidize the purses paid out for USAC/CRA events at the speedway," the longtime promoter lamented. "I want to thank USAC for all their support in the 2009 and 2010 racing seasons. I understand they too have their own economic concerns
and I appreciate everything they have done to keep their presence in Sprint Car racing on the west coast. The entire motorsports industry is driven by sponsorship participation. The plain facts are, it has dramatically impacted the short tracks. If we mirror the same business models as the other tracks, it will only be a matter of time we find ourselves in the same economic situation that they have experienced. I know it is a lot for not only the race fans to accept but
the race teams as well. Hopefully everyone will accept this and the speedway will continue to provide exciting racing for years to come. It is a shame that numerous tracks have been forced to close, especially in Southern California."

The increases instituted are as follows:

· Adult tickets to USAC/CRA races $25.00

· Senior tickets to USAC/CRA races $20.00

· USAC/CRA member pit pass $40.00

· USAC/CRA non-member pit pass $50.00

Adult tickets to PASSCAR events $12.00

Practice$40.00

Tickets for active military members with proper id, kids 6-12 and students aged 13-18 with school id will remain at $5.00. Kids 5-years old and under are free.

"While we are forced to increase the prices, we plan on rewarding the fans with stepped up value for their extra fees," Kazarian stated. "I want thank all of our wonderful race fans for the past 16 years of support and look forward to seeing them on February 25th at our season opener."

The best deal in racing, money saving 2012 Perris Auto Speedway season tickets, is

No offense to the K's, but $25 to get in the front gate won't get more butts in the bleachers. For a couple, no kids, $50 is more than it is to go to the movies, more than it is to go to a nice restaurant for dinner and in this economy, more than most can afford.

Why such a big price difference between the PASSCAR and USAC/CRA events? A $13 difference is a big thing.

Will you be advertising more? Offering discounts? What about an admission and food combo? I can't believe it.

This will really make me reconsider where to go to watch racing. If gas prices stay the same, since I have an econo box now, it might pay to go to Ventura, Santa Maria, Bakersfield, Tulare, Hanford or other places. With my car, it would cost me the same. I got this email and thought I read it in error. I came here and found out that it was correct.

I understand about making money, but the racers are racing for less, last that I heard, than they were since Ascot days. So rather than do something to get more people in the stands, you want to push them away by the prices. I have been talking up sprint cars, especially since there's only 1 race per month, trying to do my best to get more butts in your seats. But at $25 per adult, I know what I'm going to be told now.

Darnit. I wish Perris well, but I'm sure only the die hard sprint car lovers will be there for the sprint car racing. Die Hards and family members of the racers will be there. The question is, will there be new fans there?

Just my opinion. But, w/Jimmy being a student that doesn't qualify under the student prices because he's over 18, it would cost us over $50 to go. Living on our student stipend which isn't much, how can we afford to go? How about a discount for ALL students no matter what their age is?

I will cya @ the races, just don't know where I'll be. I think I'll travel around this year esp if I can find a partner in crime!!! LOL

RIP Chet and Mark. You might be gone but never will
be forgotten.

get together with a few friends and buy season tickets @ $14.00 each, personally I think $25.00 is a deal and I'm far from rich.

Rob, it would be a steal of a deal if we weren't living on a monthly stipend from Jimmy's financial aid. Granted, it's more than most get, but still, $25 per adult on a student budget just doesn't go far. If they allowed all students to take advantage of the student price it would be great, but since he's over 18, it won't work.

We don't have the amount needed to buy season tickets up front. It sucks. So, I'm heading for Phoenix for the 6 day show. Staying at friends places and bought my tickets in advance to save money. Since I've got the Honda now, it sips gas rather than drinks it so I'm heading there and then going to check out all of the other schedules and making decisions to head to different tracks this year. With only 1 race a month, I know I can come up with the money to go for me alone, but what about getting more fans in the seats? You and I have both talked about it Rob, and the price scares people away. I wish that Perris would sit down with the teams, fans, etc and let everyone put in some info to see if we can all come to a conclusion that would help raise the purse for the racers, put some coin in the K's pocket and make it affordable for the fans. I know they have the fairboard to deal with too, but there's still got to be a better way.

I dont see the books for the checks and balances at the PAS so I cant give a firm reply. I have to think that DK really hated to implement this as he knows how it would be perceived. As someone who beats the PR drum myself to try and make this sport viable, I can feel Scott's pain in having to write this news.

Im currently in the process of putting together sponsorships for our series (OCRS). Im working on large and small amounts. For those who havent tried to get funding for sponorships and wonder what is it really like, think of this scenario:

You walk up to the bum on the street corner and ask him for $5 from his can that he has been stuffing dollars into all day. He will look at you like your are out of your mind. That's what we feel like when we ask a business to just pony up $50 for something. And Im talking businesses with annual advertising budgets of several thousand dollars or more.

Im not one to tell someone what to afford. I do know this: if something isnt resolved with the problems facing our sport, the hour glass will eventually run empty and we will be left with nothing but a pile of sand to sift through our fingers.

KOP, I've been involved w/racing since I was 3 yrs old in 1967. I have been the one who has gone out to try and find sponsorship (big and small). I think it is all in how the product you are looking for sponsorship for is marketed. I know this was probably one of the last things that the K's wanted to do. But to bump it up $5? For a family of 4 that means $65 just to walk in the gate. No food, no drinks, no souveniers. Because it is at the fairgrounds you can't bring in your own water, soda or food so how can our beloved sport compete with everything else that a family can do on a Saturday night in this economy?

I have been talking to a lot of people when we got the email. We are all wondering how we are going to come up with the money to get in. I mean, for my situation, it won't change until my hubby is out of school and has a full time job again and that won't be for at least a year. Living on student loan money or since he's under the GI Bill, our monthly stipend, it doesn't go as far as we want. We would love nothing more than to be able to make every race and support a car or two. We can't.

The sponsors need to know the bang for their buck they are getting. Some trailers don't list what they are and what they are racing and some do. There's advertising for the sponsors that could be used as a return of investment deal. I don't know how to do it the right way, but I would love to figure out a way to put up a great proposal deal for minor and major sponsors not only for racers but for the track as well. I just don't know how. I'm sure someone does. There has to be a way to get more track sponsors, maybe more sponsors at lower amounts? Split the billboards in half? I don't have the answers, I just know as one (of many) struggling in this economy, the price increase is going to make it very hard for me to make the races to see the cars I love to watch the most.

It's a shame there isnt a magical answer June. When we are facing a challenge when not only isnt corporate america buying, but the companies that are in the very industry we are in (parts & supply companies, tire distributors, fuel & oil suppliers and such) arent buying, it makes for a tough-tough situation.

Having previously resided in So-Cal for ten years, I understand how its more expensive to live there than the mid-west (where I am now). Housing, gas, utilities, groceries and sadly, race tickets are just a few things that cost more there than here.

In addition to my duties with OCRS, Im starting to sell ads for a racing website. These particular ads are only $25 a month and I'm floored by some companies who are in the racing industry, in the same market that the site targets, and yet the reaction over such a simple amount can run cold. Example:

Me: Hello Im representing brand-x website and we market your area and..... (here is where I explain the program) then............

Prospect: I dunno, money is kind of tight right now

Me: Oh thats the good part, its only $25 a month!

Prospect: Well maybe another time

Me: May I ask you a sincere question?

Prospect: OK

Me: As I mentioned a moment ago, we have a few thousand hits a month for the $25 fee. If I may ask, what programs are you using now that are equally effective for $25 a month?

Prospect: It sounds good but check back with me another time

Now, how the heck are you supposed to work with someone that is willing to burn a massive ton of wasted electricity a month at their shop or office (they ALL do) but doesnt want to have multiple thousands of potential prospects see their ad for a fraction of the amount they are wasting? I have always said: "Racing people arent always driving with both eyes open."

I was going to ask about Veterans that are also senior citizens getting a discount. Then I realized that about 1/4 of the crowd would fit that category. Oh well, I'll find the money somewhere. Otherwise I will have to turn in my "Official Die Hard Non-wing Sprint Card Membership Card".

Season ticket holder when this all began and when I received a letter to renew, I was a bit surprised of the price increase and then learned how much general admission would be so I had the same idea as Turn4Rob and asked a friend to go halves. Or sell them to someone who would be interested in watching the best racing around. For $14 that's a heck of a deal and we hardcores can get sell the unused tickets for $14 or more and you can break even or get some of your money back and still those "butts in them seats". Go #50.

25 bucks it is. I have no complaints. I don't get to go to the races when ever I want, I have to plan for it in advance; so when I do get a chance to go to the events I really want to see I will pay what ever it costs. 65 bucks for a Sun's game? paid it. 110 for a Cardinals ticket? paid it. Those events don't last for 5-6hrs and pretty much suck compared to a good Sprint Car race anyway. Hoping to make to Perris 2x's this summer.

See you at Canyon Friday and Saturday, if you're making the trip from SoCal drive safe

Ventura and Tulare are also pretty liberal in allowing food into the track

No information on ticket prices for Hanford, Santa Maria, or Irindale Speedway.

Looks like some great races to watch again in So Cal and Central Ca. Especially looking forward to WOO at Tulare, King of West & USAC 360 Tulare, ASCS Winged 360 National Show and Combined USAC/Western 410 shows at Santa Maria (ie big fields), all coast construction AND Vendors Cup (Big $) at Ventura, Cotton Classic at Hanford, and of course the Oval Nationals at Perris. But my favorite race of the year is the Trophy Cup which will also add a non wing night this year.

JD, you said everything I weas going to say and said it better. Looks like I will be right on your bumper following you. Trophy Cup? best damn show period! WOO at Tulare? hope to see TK and those KOW shoes there, even Larson and the "Pocket Rocket" Rico Abreu. NASCAR? not so much, but as the World Famous Walt Hauser said "racin's racin". Let's not forget Jimmy's joint with lots of midget shows. Looks like Naylor will make a success of his midget series, as he did with the sprints.

Lil steep on the price but I'll find a way to be at every sprint race up and down the state and in AZ. See you at the races. Chile bowl was a blast won't miss that ever again.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

They don't honor Vetrans Cards. Grandpa asked about it last year and was told NOPE. I don't know why Vets, who served our country can't get in for the military price.

I have often wondered if the powers that be read what the fans say on these message boards. Since we are the ones paying the prices to get into race AND most of us try to bring in new fans, why can't they see what WE want/need and adjust.

Senior Citizens on a fixed income paying $20 to get into a race is going to be tough for them. I know it will have an effect on my family.

Students over 18 working on a college degree paying $25 to get in is going to be tough. Why not let them in for a student discount. Instead of $5 maybe $10 for older students? Might get more butts in the seats.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens.

RIP Chet and Mark. You might be gone but never will
be forgotten.

This is still a GREAT entertainment value. I will still attend as many events as is possible at The PAS. I feel very fortunate that during the worst economy since the great depression we still have some of the best 410 sprint car racing in the U.S. at The PAS. I sincerely hope that the Kazarians manage to keep the track open through these extremey difficult times.

I agree that diehard race fans who already attend won't mind paying a few extra dollars. But what about attracting new fans?

I was in line behind a group of 4 guys who were talking about how they'd never been to a sprint car race before and they thought it was going to be cool. Then they reached the ticket counter and saw the prices. They asked, just to confirm, if the prices on the sign were correct. When they were told "yes", they looked at each other, turned around, and left. They said they didn't want to pay that much. And that was before this price increase.

I get that people who are already fans are willing to pay because they know what they'll be getting. But how to convince those who've never been?

I think if you can get them through the gate, get them watching, get them hooked, they'll be back. Charge less at the gate, or offer buy one get one free, and they'll think they're getting a bargain. They'll buy beer and snacks and they'll see great racing and they'll want to come back. I know if I get in somewhere for half price, I tend to spend more money on snacks, beer and souvenirs because I feel like I have extra money to spend. It isn't really true because I end up spending MORE, but since I have it in my head that I saved money, I spend more. And I want to come back.

Get them to try it and like it by offering a deal and they'll be willing to spend money to come back. Repeat business makes money!

LOL

A price increase was going to happen with Perris. You can't not keep losing money and bringing

in the big 410/CRA shows and break even. I only go there once in a while because it is almost

a 5 hour drive but I loved the fans being able to go into the pits. We also run the 360 West

Coast sprint non wing series plus two 600 micro sprints locally. No one inlcuding promotors

want to see prices raise but they also don't want to close their doors either. I will pay the

extra to see great racing at one of the top tracks in the country. By the way, movie tickets

run $ 14.00 each so a family of 4 is $ 56.00 plus a large box of popcorn and a large coke

is $ 13.50 x 4 is $ 54.00. I am up to $ 110.00 for the evening and movies don't come close

to my enjoyment of watching sprint cars. Maybe, I am wrong but Perris has always tried to

do the right thing i have noticed. Last year at the Oval Nationals they reversed their decision

if I remember right and went back to their original format. That usually takes some big

players to change after going to another format knwoing someone was going to be unhappy.

Hey next time your at the track, go into the pits and find any car owner or owner/driver and ask what it really cost to come out and run. I worked on a sprint back in the ascot days, It is a phenomenal amount of work and dedication to put a car on the track. Imagine how much work the promoter put's into this. It still takes money to do this. Next time you go to the track, thank the man. I don't know if you will ever find a more dedicated person to the sport we love.

Try and go into the locker room to say hi to your favorites. It isn't going to happen. At Perris

you can even meet with the team owners. Try that with Frank McCourt.
