Victory at 'The Classic'!
The
2012 Australia tour has been tough for Craig Dollansky and the D&B
Goodyer Developments #7 team up to this point but on Saturday everything
turned around on night one of the Lucas Oil Products Grand Annual
Sprintcar Classic at Premier Speedway.
With numerous other
Americans joining the Australia contingent at the prestigious event the
night would get underway with a stellar field of 81 cars signed in.
Qualifying would see 'The Crowd Pleaser' stop the clocks 11th quick in
the second set. In the first round of heat races Dollansky started
inside of row two and powered to victory. The second round of heats saw
the Elk River, Minnesota native start way back in row four and knife
all the way through the competition to steal the lead on the final lap
and take the victory.
Strong runs in the heat races positioned
Dollansky third in points as the highest American behind Kerry Madsen
and Ian Loudoun. Starting from inside row two of the 25-lap feature
'The Crowd Pleaser' diced it up with Loudoun in the early stages of the
main event as they executed numerous slide-jobs in the first four laps.
The duo set a fast pace and continued to battle until lap 11 laps to go
when the D&B Developments sprinter claimed the top spot and held
off the Australian competition by motoring to victory.
"We
decided to strip the car down after the King Challenge and build a new
one for tonight and it sure paid off. It was a great effort by my guys
who worked their tails off," commented Dollansky. "We didn't qualify as
well as we wanted but we were able to get through the heat races to win
both and put us in good position for the feature and capitalize on it.
The Australian race fans are great and we love coming down here,
tomorrow is longer with 40 laps but we'll see if we can do it again."
With
points accumulated Dollansky sits second behind Kerry Madsen heading
into tonight's $40,000-to-win, 40th running of 'The Classic' at Premier
Speedway, Australia's richest and most prestigious event.
