Jonathan Allard won the race of two halves to take out the second round of the Porter Group/Hydralink International Sprintcar Series at Western Springs Speedway NZ. From a front row start Sammy Swindell took a comfortable lead for the first 15 laps of the 30 lap feature with Allard a distant second. A mid race caution shuffled the deck with Allard by his own admission looking for answers, throwing a wing adjustment at the car and with an attitude adjustment from himself caught and passed Sammy soon after the restart. As the laps wound down it became apparent that Sammy had made the wrong call on the right rear as the track took more and more rubber. In the last 10 laps with the right rear literally flaming sporadically, Sammy was caught and passed by NZ local Dean Brindle to finish 3rd. The mid race caution was cause by Australian come American Peter Murphy who had a drive line let go resulting in the drive shaft and torque tube exiting the car and landing on the track. After initially requiring urgent medical attention Murphy was assessed by the infield doctor and was lucky to only sustain brusing and swelling in the ankles and knee. The first round of the International Midget Series was taken out by Kyle Larson. Local Michael Pickens controlled the majority of the race from Larson, Australian Nathan Smee and Jerry Coons Jr. But with about 10 laps to go Larson worked the high line and edged past Pickens, who made a small mistake entering town bend resulting in a comfortable last 5 laps for the victory for Larson. Pickens 2nd, Nathan Smee 3rd with Coons Jnr 4th. Kevin Swindell failed to finish after taking a gamble on a soft compound for the feature after struggling in qualifying. After a tangle with Michael Kendall Swindell retired to the infield but with the the rest of the field going with a medium or hard compound it may well have been the night of the wrong tyre choice for the Swindell's.
